Muslims have been around longer than any of us have been alive. There's evidence that the term "Palestinian" was a Soviet invention. Fifty years ago, Muslim terrorism was not on the world "radar" screen. Also, how many right-wing Muslim movements do you see? It just makes me wonder.

I had to check my calendar to make sure it was not 1952. There is no evidence that Palestinian is a Soviet invention considering the area was called that long before the Soviet Union existed. The reason Muslim terrorism is a recent phenomenon is because only recently in the last 50-60 years has radical Islamic ideology really began to spread. Partly because the Middle East became colonized after World War I, Muslims did not want to be ruled by foreign powers and in response turned to radical Islam and terrorism.

Palestine is more of a Jordan/Eygpt/Syria invention. Jordan and Egypt swallowing up the lands Israel did not occupy.

More several hundred years of Ottoman invention.

48 years ago a Muslim terrorist assassinated a presidental candidate, so I'd say it was on the radar

I wouldn't have thought that the Palestinians were creations of the Soviet. They were allies or satellites and were not at that time remarkably Muslim.

Also, how many right-wing Muslim movements do you see?

Nearly all of them.

Hamas, Taliban, Al Qaeda, ISIS...they are all right wing movements.

I'm actually having a hard time thinking of any that aren't right wing. Maybe Gaddafi's "Third International Theory" could be considered left-wing. But he's gone now.

Which movements is it you think are left-wing?

Pretty much all of them are right wing nowadays----Baathism was supposed to be the Arab socialist alternative(at least if you believe the hype).

But the left wing Arab terrorists have basically been wiped out or died off.

The concept of being a Palestinean isn't a Soviet invention.

Well Palestine existed under the Ottomans and the British called it Palestine well before it becoming Mandatory Palestine.

this should be in the conspiracy theories thread

The holy literature is behind fundamentalist Islam. Fundamentalist Islam is what we call radical.

Look at Muslim voting around the world, there seems to be a preponderance of support for socialistic parties.

The various socialist parties tend to be secular in nature and generally opposed by fundamentalist muslims ( ie islamists)

As for the rise of islamists outside of Egypt (muslim brotherhood) more towards the Salafist/wahhabist their rise is directly tied to the 1980s support of rebels in Afghanistan fighting the Soviets. Primary funding and support being from Saudi Arabia and the US. All encouraged foreign fighters from arab states to Afghanistan to fight. They promoted a hardline version of Islam. Eventually forming the Taliban.

Syria, before the revolution, Libya, and Egypt for a time were socialist states. Egypt has become more capitalist, and fought hardline Islamists. Syria did the same to the muslim brotherhood years ago, now collapsed and an islamist paradise along with Libya.

So instead of a communist plot, it seems the US has had direct influence in creating failed states out of what were somewhat socialist states allowing islamists to come in and gain power

I know it makes people warm and fuzzy to blame the US. Remember Islamists attacked American ships in 1788. Quite a while before the MB and Afghanistan. But it was a mistake to familiarize them with modern weapons and technology and espionage.

Being muslim does not automatically make one islamist,

just as being Christian does not automatically make one Christian. The Barbary pirates/privateers do not seem like islamists

They were nonetheless.

You said "how many right-wing Muslim movements do you see?"

Faced with the fact that nearly every Muslim movement is right-wing you are switching gears to pointing to voting patterns (which you have not presented).

Let's see your evidence.

The barbary pirates were driven about as much by religious motivation as were the Vikings by some Norse gods. Or blackbirder captains by some religion-rooted notion of white supremacy.

As such the thesis you are replying to indeed smacks of ignorance.

Whatever communist influence reigned thruout the post-colonial Arab world was introduced by the Soviets in their desire to curb Western influence during the cold war. And readily embraced on the principle of "the enemy of my enemy perhaps not being my friend but better than going against the over-powerful enemy by my own dire instruments."

As such insurgencies against colonial remnants found Soviet support, both by ideological help and by arms supply as well as training in the use.

Egypt was entirely Soviet armed by the time of the 6 day war but also a willing ally in supporting pseudo-socialistic uprisings in the Arab world long before that. In some cases deploying own troops to foreign lands, notably in the North Yemen where it supplied a whole air force to support a socialist regime against the Islamic fundamentalists that had been ousted by a coup but were heavily fighting back with largely clandestine support by the West, including Israel.

The Oman war, where primarily about local grievances, was no different as were "troubles" in the Emirates.

Yet a natural kinship formed nowhere, the communist "godlessness" being the greatest hindrance. At the end of the day Islam and communism are violently opposed to each other.

Facts

Muslims have been around longer than any of us have been alive. There's evidence that the term "Palestinian" was a Soviet invention. Fifty years ago, Muslim terrorism was not on the world "radar" screen. Also, how many right-wing Muslim movements do you see? It just makes me wonder.

Facts:

1. Jews and Christians have been around long time before Muslims.

2. Palestina is the name given to the land of Israel by Roman emperor at about 132,
at the same time he called Jerusalem by the name Ilia Capitolina.

3. Palestine was the name used widely from the 15 century, especially in Europe.
The main use was to tell the Jews: "go to Palestine".

4. During the British rule and mandate, they used the name Palestine for the land of Israel,
and the citizens in this area were called Palestinians,
Jews, Arabs, Druze, Germans, Beduins, all called Palestininas.

5. Until 1964 the Arabs used the term Palestina or Palestinian only to mention the place they were before,
and not as people.

6. In 1964 the Arabs established the terrorist group PLO, declaring their goal of the destruction
of Israel and murder of the Jews.

7. In 1967, after the victory of Six Day War, Israeli traitors and Arab terrorists (without direct coordination),
start using the term "palestinian people".
The Arabs admit that they use it in order to destroy Israel,
and they also admit that there is no such people.

Muslim terrorism was under the radar because they only murdered Jews,
and that is not a problem for most gentiles.
And a small surprise for you, most of the Islamic terrorism against Israel is still under the radar.

I would imagine that if you wanted to put more Muslims into the hands of extremist groups a good way to do it would be to attack and destroy countries with large Muslim populations............. so who do you think has been doing a lot of that lately ?

I always thought it was multi dimensional yet never considered that aspect.
