Ark Encounter A Finacial Disaster.

Eh. During Passover dinner - at least when my family put some effort into it, meaning longish readings - I found that mixing wine with my religion made the experience easier.

Only if it dulls the pain.

So a great piece here on how The Ark Encounter has not worked out well at all for the locals who were dumb enough to give this guy Ham a ton of money.

A Taste:

Grant County is in pretty bad shape. As the TV station noted, the county is more or less broke and plans to raise taxes to meet its budget.

Part of the problem may simply be due to unrealistic expectations. As the New York Daily News reported that last year, park consultants claimed the attraction would create 20,000 jobs and generate $40 billion in revenue from tourism.

Let’s get real. This is a giant boat in the middle of nowhere. It’s hardly Disneyland. Ham claims attendance has been high, but as William Trollinger and Susan L. Trollinger of the Righting America at the Creation Museum Blog noted recently, we have no way of knowing if that’s true. We have to take Ham’s word for it.

Now Ham claims that the ark is going gangbusters, but so far there are no reports of any proof of this more than his claim.

It's very highly rated on Trip Advisor (4.5 out of 5 with some 1,000+ reviews). So, people who are going there enjoy it. The problem is that it's in Kentucky. Unless you already live in the area or plan on visiting family there, would you really want to see this badly enough to plan a family vacation to Kentucky? This probably would have been a big money maker in a place like Orlando or New York; somewhere people already plan family vacations to visit. There just aren't many people interested enough in this one thing to plan a family vacation to a landlocked state with nothing else going for it.

The average time spent there is something like 3 hours, so a lot of people live close enough to make it a day trip, though $40 Adult $28 Kids 5 and over gets spendy for my tastes for just three hours.

Does it have a statue of Noah's wife, Joan Of Ark?
