Islamic men can ‘lightly beat’ wives [W:9]

Re: Islamic men can ‘lightly beat’ wives

The Arabic is simple. Wa (and) Idrubbu (plural imperative of hit or stirke) hunna (them). If I got it wrong, show me how.

it is not that simple, many religious authorities still argue this issue.

Re: Islamic men can ‘lightly beat’ wives

It seems to me that other religions contain even worse .... but unlike the Muslims, the other religions have lawyered-up, and then choose a quote from a modern preacher who might disagree with such. Or use the claim that "Not All" believe that.

I can point you to many.

Start with a Google search for items and laws listed "Sanhedrin 55b." "Sanhedrin 58b" "Soferim 15, rule 10" "Yebamoth 63a." and I could go on and on.

In all religious texts there can be found something to ridicule.

The new-found God of Abraham commanded him to kill his son Issac and thus revealed himself as something of a schizophrenic God who acts different to the very laws of creation which he himself instilled in every man’s heart.

It is not a wonder why Islam was born?

So? All that has squat to do with the topic at hand. Did I prove the point or not?

Re: Islamic men can ‘lightly beat’ wives

Could you be more vague? What...did...I...get...wrong?

that may not mean ' beating' which is mentioned in the verse and really it is a matter of argument among the authorities

Oh! What point were you attempting to make? Maybe I misunderstood the post. Give me the point at some length so I need not ask again.

I was showing that Muslims can beat their wives because God told them to.

This is hilarious. If there can be disagreement over what a simple 3 word phrase means, one that is in NO WAY ambiguous, what does that say for the rest of the Qur'an? If that's not clear, how can anything in the Qur'an be considered clear? Did your god really do that bad a job communicating with mankind? Is he really that incompetent? What...a...hoot!

Well, what I posted would detail what God told other religions what they could do to their children.

Perform the Google Search for the terms I set out within my earlier post.

Right today in the U.S. there is a group of Orthodox Jews who claim that they can beat children too.

Do a Google Search for the term "Kiryas Joel"

To amuse yourself even further .....

Try a Google Search for "Rabbi Elior Chen" who's doin' some pretty weird stuff in Canada.

This thread isn't exactly about I/P issues but I wouldn't doubt that Israel gets dragged into the conversation somewhere along the lines. To that end I'm putting it here as a safe guard against violating I/P subjects in other parts of the forum.

(note: the bolding was not mine, that's in the article itself)

I know that there are many peaceful Muslims in this world that wouldn't hurt a fly. But this is the kind of thing that gives Islam a bad name and really should be rejected by all regardless no matter what.

Edit: Forgot the link, sorry: Islamic men can ‘lightly beat’ wives

Orthodox Jews do not allow their wives to shake hands with men, nor are men "allowed" (as much as that is possible) to address wives in public. A Jewish friend of mine, who isn't orthodox, invited my family to a public menorah lighting, and informed me of this custom ahead of time, so different cultures have different ways of doing things. This is to say that, the behavior of orthodox Muslims should not be a shock, and therefore are not the big deal you're trying to make out of it, for prejudicial purposes, and can't go in this country anyway. Guys get arrested for that stuff, as they should, and it's imprisonment of women in my view, which also can't go here. In Saudi Arabia and jerk-water Middle East, they can get away with it. So what? Women marched for the vote here...

Thankfully there are laws in most places now which protect women. Unfortunately, not everyone obeys them, here in America, or over there. There are so many faiths around the globe that it's hard to pick just one to magnify in regards to how they treat others. I would never trade places with Pakistani women, I've heard some horror stories about their treatment regardless of the law. Muslim extremists are more common there.

Are you saying that it is never justifiable to strike a female?

What circumstances would provoke you "personally" to strike a female?

I notice he has made replies to other posts after yours but not this one.
Should be interesting for him list all the situations where he would strike a female or more specifically a wife since that was part of the OP.

eg.:
Would he strike a female for saying no to sex?
Would he strike his wife for saying no to sex?

What kind of attire would he force her to wear?

I'm guessing it would simply be the word "no" said by a woman. And for no particular reason or circumstance.

It would have been nice if you clarified in the OP that this is in Pakistan. My husband is working in Pakistan right now, but he is not in Punjab region. This is occurring in the Punjab region where women's rights are beginning to be recognized by the government. I hope Khan Sherani is the last of his kind, but I am also realistic. Even if women cannot be beaten, a lot of the younger males seem to have serious sexist beliefs towards women.

They might get some of that from this:
Now then, O people, you have a right over your wives and they have a right over you. You have [the right] that they should not cause anyone of whom you dislike to tread on your beds; and that they should not commit any open indecency. If they do, then Allah permits you to shut them in separate rooms and to beat them, but not severely. If they abstain from [evil], they have the right to their food and clothing in accordance with the custom. Treat women well, for they are [like] domestic animals with you and do not possess anything for themselves. Al-Tabari, Vol. 9, pp. 112-113
