Democrat Klans appealed to poor and uneducated people to swell and grow their ranks, similar to the appeal of Fundamentalist Islam to the poor and uneducated Muslims. Its really not hard to understand. Its a cycle that repeats itself. Castro appealed to the poor and uneducated. Hitler. Marx. Chavez. The Islamic culture holds no special cachet.

But lots of ISIS' fighters are middle class kids, whether Saudi or Western. The Red Army Faction/Baader Meinhof also had a lot of middle class kids in their ranks.

Not to say there aren't poorly educated terrorists, but a lot of them, especially during the Cold War, were decently well educated kids.

I think that one of us WAS making up stuff and it isn't me. I don't think you can even join the Klan unless you're a conservative Christian. Just because some conservative Christians seventy years ago called themselves "democrats" doesn't mean they weren't conservative AND Christians and it certainly doesn't indict modern democrats.

Regardless, the Republican party has devolved or, should I say, stagnated in a perpetual state of ethnocentric greed. As conservatives, they feel naturally entitled to their base instincts. While the country has, socially, ground forward, the conservatives have drug their heels the whole distance, maintaining the unnatural rights of money to buy votes and for subjective interpretations of Jesus to run our lives according to the imagined exceptionalism of European-descended monotheists. I truly wish history weren't what it is. It was written by Christians who weren't shy about killing anyone who got in their way.

So, the lady in the interview is wrong. White people know exactly what Islamic culture is like and so many of them want their own version of it.

tell it to the democrats that formed the Klan. Celebrate it with the only sitting US Senator to be openly robed. First of all, your lack of historical knowledge is equaled only by your lack of contemporary knowledge. The Republican party has been caught voter caging, they support dismantling every social program that helps poor black people get an education and eat and one casual glance at their conventions tells the real story as well as any. At the time the democratic party was formed, it was the more conservative party. It was chuck full of Jesus freaks and southern conservatives. Over the years, it flipped and, when it did, the southern conservative Jesus freaks, white supremacists and all, went with them. In fact, there was a famous "southern strategy" that appealed to racists and it wasn't the democrats who used that strategy.

So, while I understand the therapeutic benefit of denial for those who refuse to believe that they are aligned with racists, the evidence slaps that idea right down in the dirt. Your ignorance of the political flip that happened throughout the years is classic stupidity. The only thing you wrote that was true is that facts don't lie. The question now is, can you face them.
