Some Satan followers having lost a battle in Oklahoma, decided to run to Detroit Michigan and put up their statue to their Deity. What say ye?

A Satanic organization unveiled a controversial bronze Baphomet sculpture in Detroit just before midnight on Saturday, after trying in vain to have it installed near a 10 Commandments monument in Oklahoma.

The Satanic Temple unveiled the one-ton statue at an industrial building near the Detroit River just before 11:30 p.m. local time as supporters cheered, "Hail Satan." Some of the hundreds in attendance rushed to pose for photos. The statue of a winged Baphomet with a human body and a goat's head resembled a design the group previously released. Statues of a boy and a girl stood in poses of adoration on either side.

"The last thing we need in Detroit is having a welcome home party for evil," said Reverend Dave Bullock, a pastor at Greater St. Matthew Baptist Church in Highland Park, Michigan.....snip~

According to the article it was unveiled on private property and not on public land, sooooo who cares? Honestly, if a property owner wants to do this, or allow it, that's no ones business but theirs.

Now when they try it on public land in Arkansas, that will be an interesting story.

The Satanic Temple are not Satanists. They are anti-Christian provocateurs.

I'm not sure it's accurate to say the Satanic Temple "lost the battle" in Oklahoma. From what I understand, they gave up trying to force the issue after the OK Supreme Court ruled that the Ten Commandments statue their Satan statue was intended to be erected in contrast too was unconstitutional and itself must come down.

The idea for the statue in the first place came in protest to OK's huge Ten Commandments statue on courthouse property. If the Ten Commandment monument must come down, it seems they've made their point to an extent.

I do know that the OK Ten Commandments story is far from over as apparently the Governor has decided to be in contempt of court pending some imagined future state constitutional changes. If such changes are made, it could very well be the Satan statue ends up in OK after all.

Well, Reuters did point out how their battle in Oklahoma was in vain.

Reuters are the arbiters of success? Their intervention had an illegal religious statue removed. All or nothing.

Nah Oklahoma Skipper.....as they still have their 10 Commandments up. What happened?

I thought it was put up on a business property in Detroit?

Oh, so they will have to worry about the real Satanists coming after them, huh Country?

How is "business" property different than private property?

For one, with a business property just about any one can go on the property. Someone's private property, they can't. Which was the distinction I was looking to make.

Yeah, business property is private property last I heard. Owned by a business. They probably rented the site out for a period of time, and expect the statue to be removed eventually when the group tries to place it somewhere "public."

Not necessarily. From what I read, one must purchase tickets to this event, and no photos are allowed. But if it was open to the public, so what? It's not compulsive for any individual to frequent or support any business, or private residence for that matter. That's totally different than public property which if your a citizen, technically belongs to you (in part)

An event like this would be more comparable to an argument that strip clubs shouldn't be allowed because Christians are offended.

Still not seeing drawing a parallel between this an the actions of a state legislature. It's like comparing taking down the confederate flag from the state Capitol to an OZZY concert.

Was there any Order with the filing of the Appeal, to stop the enforcement of taking down the monument?

Appeals are finished unless Oklahoma wants to take it to SCOTUS. The Attorney General has filed a petition requesting the state Supreme Court rehear the case. Seems unlikely, it's been in the courts for 2 years already.

Just so long as no weird **** starts happening around town, like people disappearing for sacrifices or other **** like that. Yeah, who care.

Evidently they had trouble displaying it before in Detroit. But now were able to get over that obstacle. You don't think they would mind if someone would put up a statue of the one eyed purple people eater next to it, do you?

 I thought that went out with the Druids - I guess a few of them might have survived, but we'll have to wait for All Hallows Eve to be sure!

I wouldn't think so. My take on their point is that people should be free to display whatever they want once a public space is declared open to religious displays. If Oklahoma can display the Ten Commandments in a public space, why can't they? Or the flying purple people eater for that matter.

It's another case of Christians trying desperately to hold on to their "special" place in our society (in government). Oklahoma says we can display one religion and deny another, but their own constitution forbids that according to the Supreme Court of Oklahoma.
