Why do people believe in God?

I'm just wondering why people choose to "believe" in a person or figure who has no evidence of existing? Why are religious people not considered crazy? What's the difference between hallucinating and seeing someone who isn't there and saying you can feel God is with you. Why is Greek Mythology labeled by society as false but Christianity or Islam isn't? I just don't understand why you would have faith in an unproven thing.

At first please may I know why you would have faith that an unproven thing cannot exists? If so, then you would have faith that an unproven thing cannot exists. i.e. you yourself already have an unproven faith that "an unproven faith connot exists" because, if it was proven then you didn't ask it here.

At second, suppose that you're in a dark room, then, accidently the room will be lighted and you cannot see this light source. Can I tell you that the room is dark because you cannot see the light source?
