Re: Jehovah's Witnesses advise against education.

Fool that I am I will give your question a try, Reverend.

Rather than a concept of god, Buddhists describe a state of being that is 'indescribable, inconceivable and inexpressible' as the 'perfection of sublime knowing' that is 'unborn and unceasing' and is the 'very nature of space' as the 'realm of your own self-knowing timeless awareness'.

Not a creator god, not existing as separate from the universe, it's contents and all beings therein, this is the state of being that gives rise to buddhahood which is achievable by all human beings.

Other traditions call this state of being God, Atma, Shiva, Shakti, Allah, Yahweh etc etc, whereas buddhists would say this is awakened mind that is beyond the four extremes of existence, non-existence, both and neither.

Re: Jehovah's Witnesses advise against education.

While I dont agree with everything Jehovah's Witnesses proclaim. I do feel that do have some things right.

For one they are non-profit *Gasp!*. I know its hard to believe a religous organization that is not out for profit these days!

They do not change or cater to public opinion to the extent most other religions do simply to keep numbers (or profit revenues going). One of the stupidest things I see is churches that were once very clear in thier strong stance against gays now openly embracing them. The bible clearly says that it wrong so why say "ok, were cool with it now". Its all about turning away potential donators and not about the bible or god.

Re: Jehovah's Witnesses advise against education.

Your post 17 doesn't point out any specific tangible item either

I mean it's can't be hard, just type the one or two word name of the tangible thing the pamphlet refers to.

Actually, the Bible doesn't "clearly state" that homosexuality is wrong. The only really clear statement it makes concerning homosexuality is that effeminate male prostitutes (malakoi) are an abomination. I can agree with that.

Of course there is the old testament verse that states men lying with men is an abomination, too. But so is eating shellfish, wearing blended fibers, the color red, pork, and not sacrificing animals to God in a specific way.

So really, we already pick and choose from the old testament what we still follow and don't. How are you really gonna say, "Oh well eating shellfish is ok now but we're gonna keep the gay stuff cuz gays are ickier than shrimp" and actually keep a straight face?

Since it's tangent-day at DP, I'd like to point out that that's not about wearing any mixed fiber at all per-se.

It's about blending one specific plant fiber with one specific animal fiber to produce an inferior product and then passing it off as the real deal.

Fake Rolex, anyone?

The whole mixed-fiber thing is about committing fraud, and no, it's not ok to commit fraud.

***
The whole shellfish thing is about avoiding diets rich in purines, which we should still do today.

***
The color red thing has to do with acting like a whore, which you seem to already agree with me on.

***
Pork had to do with only eating healthy animals.

***
Only Jewish priests were ever supposed to sacrifice anything, not the average person.
