HARARE, Zimbabwe (CBSDC/AP) — A Zimbabwean immigration official says former U.S. Rep. Melvin Jay Reynolds has been arrested in the African country. The official, Ario Mabika, told The Associated Press Tuesday that Reynolds is being investigated.
The state-controlled The Herald newspaper reported Tuesday that Reynolds was arrested for allegedly possessing pornographic material and violating immigration laws.
Reynolds, an Illinois Democrat, resigned from his congressional seat in 1995 after he was convicted of 12 counts of statutory rape, obstruction of justice and solicitation of child pornography.

Prior to leaving office in January 2001, former President Bill Clinton commuted Reynold’s prison sentence on unrelated bank fraud charges stemming from an 1997 conviction.

I thought it was only repubs that exhibited this sort of reprehensible behavior....

What? Possessing porn? That's what he was arrested for in Zimbabwe. I imagine the entire congress would be guilty had they brought their "collection" with them.

I think this was the operative link...'Reynolds, a Democrat from Illinois, had to resign from Congress in 1995 after convictions for statutory rape, obstruction of justice and solicitation of child pornography.'

Now whether it was child porn or not, the article doesn't say, but I'd bet that it wasn't traditional SI swimsuit editions....

In any case what an upstanding citizen right?

Porn is illegal in Zimbabwe period and since only porn was mentioned, not child porn, I only have what the article mentioned.

Anything else is just assuming and holds no relevance.

Wonder if your argument would be the same if (R) appeared after his name? My guess is no, regardless of how you will now tell me ofcourse you would say the same....

You're guess is wrong. You can claim anything you like, but my comments show differently. You just have sour grapes because you are doing here exactly what you claim others will do and got called on it.

As with almost everything here, it comes down to partisanship. If he were a Repub, most conservatives here would be running to deflect attention onto Bill Clinton. Even your comment on the article is highly partisan, then 5 posts in you're decrying partisanship.

Right, I am calling him out because he is a demo reprobate....So what? In case you haven't noticed, I am not a democrat....As for what you would or wouldn't do were this a republican is really just my own opinion, and I am entitled to it...It is not just thrown out there by chance, it is considered after years of watching you post....So...What ever....

No, not decrying anything....I embrace it in this instance....I know that the game would be role reversal if the (D) were changed to (R) here....But does that mean that no one should ever bring up with a (D) gets caught doing despicable things? Maybe. If you're the Wash Press Corp. that is....

So what? You are doing the exact same thing you criticize others of doing to Republicans. So basically you are no better than them, good to know.

And since you have seen what I have posted for years, why don't you put your money where your mouth is and actually post proof of your baseless claims. So yeah, whatever. When you get called out for something, all you have is deflection. Typical hack.

:lamo Typical liberal response...."why don't you go on a snipe hunt for the rest of the afternoon"... Priceless....Complete with a personal attack....pfft....meaningless.

Typical Con response, YOU are the one making the claim and you're pissed because I ask for your proof. :lamo

You fail debating 101.

It doesn't mean that it shouldn't necessarily be brought up, although the newsworthiness of a back-bencher who's been out of Congress for almost 20 years is suspect. I didn't know his name then, I haven't heard it since, and my first thought was "Who the hell is that?"

I actually thought it might be Tom Reynolds who represented a district near my old hometown. I should have realized that you wouldn't have mentioned him since he's an (R). But at any rate, I only knew who he was because it was a local thing before I moved.

Oh really? And you are the arbiter of debate 101? hahahaha! What a buffoon.....:lamo

Also, since your link is to CBS in Washington, it would seem that at some level the Washington press did report it. No traction because most people's reaction was probably the same as mine - "Who?"

Yes, it is insignificant as to who this individual is today, but the fact remains that this is a (D) congress critter, pardoned by Clinton, a pedophile that was in the ranks of (D) congress critters that we never seem to hear about when (R) congress critters get caught cheating on their wives, or diddling interns while in....

Consider the fate of Gerry Studds. Caught red handed sexually abusing underage pages in the congress. Not only was he not kicked out by demo's, but he was given a standing ovation on the congress floor, for his "courage", and continued to be re elected until 1997.

What a joke....All demo's seem to do is hold their opponents to standards they feel they don't have to abide by.

If he was a Repub, there would be nothing to deflect because Clinton wouldn't have done anything for him back then.

Oh yeah, they reported it....AP did a story, this was a reprint of it....If it were a paper it'd probably be on pg A23 or something.... I guess I am just getting old......

He wasn't pardoned, his sentence was commuted.

So this whole thing is about feeding your persecution complex? I should have known.

Gerry Studds is another "Who?" Where's your outrage when it is a Republican? Oh yeah, YOU only care if it's a Democrat.

Well, Republican's usually step down, while demo's hold fast, and in some cases get called courageous for doing so....

But the story is devoloping....For instance...This wasn't a case of simply possessing porn....

"Mel Reynolds was allegedly in the country illegally since December, making pornographic films in hotel rooms with at least 10 models
He reportedly racked up $24,500 in unpaid hotel bills"

And another interesting question....

"His resignation from Congress opened up Barack Obama's first political opportunity, when a state senator stepped forward to run for the seat"

So we have this puke to thank for Obama?

I really don't care about the D to R, R to D sniping, but it was interesting to see his biography. Even a biography on wikipedia:

In 1994, indicted for sexual assault and crimilnal sexual abuse with a 16-year old campaign volunteer. Even still, he was re-elected opposed to his Chicago district.. In 1995, he was convicted on 12 counts of sexual assault, obstruction of justic and solicitation of child pornography. He finally resigned in October 1995.

While in prison, he was convicted on 15 unrelated counts of bank fraud and lying to SEC investigators. He served the full earlier term and 42 months for the later charges when President clinton commuted the sentence for bank fraud.

In 2001, he was hired by Jess Jackson to decrease the number of young blacks going to prison. in 2004, showed his gratitude to Jesse Sr, by running and being defeated by incumbent Jesse Jackson, Jr in the Democratic primary.

He seems like a dirt bag and I hope he has an extended stay in Zimbabwe. I hope the charges are true and not racially motivated.

How did he get out of Congress? Oh that's right, he resigned. I thought only Republicans do that.

Yes, Obama and everything Obama's done is this guy's fault. Maybe it's all a conspiracy! Obama forced this guy to resign so that he could eventually become President and enact Sharia Law (because you know, he's a Muslim). In order to do that, Reynolds had to be sent to Obama's homeland (Africa). Yes, it all makes sense now :lamo

I think a black guy getting arrested in Zimbabwe isn't racially motivated.
