Italian ex-spy chief gets 10years in CIA case

(Reuters) - Italy's former military intelligence chief was sentenced to 10years in jail on Tuesday for his role in the kidnapping of an Egyptian Muslimcleric in an operation organized by the United States.

An American former CIA station chief was this month sentenced in absentiato seven years in jail after imam Abu Omar was snatched from a Milan street in2003 and flown to Egypt for interrogation during the United States' "waron terror".

Good news!

Maybe someday some of the responsible people from the USA will also be held responsible. Torture is illegal per international treaties ratified by the USA and our own constitution. Claiming that terrorism and/or twisting the meanings of words allows throwing out well established laws does not make torture legal or ethical.

Former CIA Rome station chief Jeffrey Castelli and two other American officials were convicted in their absence by the Milan appeals court for their part in the plot, but are unlikely to serve their sentences.
 
Great news! Far more justice in the Italian courts than in the US courts.

And I think 20 some odd CIA agents were convicted in absentia? Some years back?
