I have no children that I am aware of.

I have two children that I am certain of.

I voted 4, but 4.3333333333333334 is more accurate.

Just because taxes are reduced for others, doesn't mean they are increased for you. It just means they are reduced for those people. Its not like they said "lets do a child tax credit, and make up for it my taxing childless parents more". Besides, having kids does that dastardly thing like keeping the country existing. In the long term view, its better for the government to encourage the nuclear family for the health of the republic and its future.

But all those things have to be paid for. There's no such thing as a free lunch. The roads, the parks, the schools, etc. have to be paid for. If taxes are reduced for one person, then the taxes another pays has to make up the deficit. So instead of maybe more general funding of scientific research, you take some of my money which would have went to that, and put it towards parks or something else. Why do single people not get the same break on a mortgage? Why can families essentially reproduce their way out of federal tax liability? Everyone should pay their fair share.

Now on the same accord, I actually don't have a problem with paying for public schools even though I don't use them. An educated populace is a necessity to a free state. However, at base your kids really aren't my problem and arguments can be made that I shouldn't have to pay for your kids. But in general, couples and families are subsidized in part from single people because we have to pick up the slack and that means maybe not having something else we could have if everyone paid the same. A little appreciation is all. Thank your single friends for paying higher tax rates than you do for all the stuff you can enjoy because of it.

None yet, but after two one of us is getting fixed.

I don't have any children. I'm subsidizing the rest of you who do. You're welcome.

My three children will be subsidizing your social security, you're welcome. ;)

Who pays more taxes? Marriage and children give you all sorts of tax benefits. I still pay for your public schools, I still pay my full share of the tax burden, even for those parks which are used well more by families than single people. Hell y'all even get breaks on your mortgage for being married; all that money has to be made up elsewhere and it is the single people who get to make it up. You can have enough kids to completely remove your federal tax liability. Sure, the first kid is expensive; but once you have one the next isn't nearly as so.

Families have been living off the back of single folk for a long time now; not paying their fair share.

So again, you're welcome.

What mortgage break do we get?

Thank you for pointing that out. It's tit for tat. They help pay for educating the people who will run the country and who's labor benefits them, though they aren't directly aware of it.

I'm sorry. Busy years.

Yeah, the 2 year old had his birthday this past Tuesday. He is taking the "terrible twos" to heart. Luckily, we have seen significant progress in potty training the past couple of weeks with the 3 year old, so things are getting better.

Hang in there, and then brace for the teenage years. If you get through that with at least half your mind, you will have done well. ;)

LOL! I'm praying and hoping that my kids are a lot like me and my husband when we were teenagers, because then I will have a couple of good students who should be into some sports and possibly theater and like to read a lot. They are also not very likely to get into trouble with the law, especially if they are a little closer to how I was as a teen, although I would like them to have a little more of my husband's confidence. We'll have to see though.

One on the way...Oct 19th...will be our first.:baby2

My wife wouldn't let me speak about me as a teenager. Not much trouble I didn't get into. My kids were better, but my daughter is the reason I lost all my hair (that's my story and I'm sticking to it!). My son had my easy personality without the tendancy to ignore things like rules and laws.

I have three, ages 23, 18, and 15.

Hahah, you think scientists retire? No, we just die at our desks and the janitor eventually empties out the office, and then a new scientist takes our place.
