Re: Will the government reimburse the homeowners that lost their homes due to the flo

Once a Federal disaster is declared the Feds will come in and make low interest loans available too those who had no flood insurance.

Make note you home owners insurance generally will not cover a flood, and that is why there is low cost Federal Ins. available.

It's always amazing how many people live in flood plain and have no Ins.

I get the ignorance of not having insurance in a flood zone, but these houses weren't lost to a natural flood, per se. They were lost by a government made flood by blowing the levees to keep other homes, states south, from being flooded.

I voted no, but they should be. Here's the plain and simple truth, money. If you have a house in...let's say Hilton Head, and it's blown to sweet f*** all by a hurricane, you are more likely to get help than if you have a bottom land house next to the river in Mississippi.

Levee or not, your house is in a flood plain.
Buyer beware is all I can say.

What really upsets me? There are people that were affected by Hurricane Katrina still struggling and have no place to live. The gov nor insurance companies should make empty promises:(

They should be reimbursed. Their homes were purposely sacrificed so that others could be saved. The government needs to take responsibility for getting involved in the first place and making the decision to destroy a private home owner's place in order to save another' home.

No, of course the taxpayers in Arizona and Nevada and the other desert states should not have to pay to replace the homes of people stupid enough to build on a river flood plain.

It's the responsibility of the homeowner to carry adequate insurance.

End of story.

If someone doesn't insure their home, it floats away. Boo hoo hoo.

They're also responsible for the damage their runaway property does.

Federal tax payers aren't responsible for the damage the federal government purposely does to home owners. However, state tax payers are responsible for the damage their home may do. You have an interesting concept of what 'responsibility' means.

Re: Will the government reimburse the homeowners that lost their homes due to the flo

If the levees were not blown, the people down the river who would have been flooded out by a natural flood would not have been reimbursed. My heart goes out to those who lost their homes, but I see this action taken by the local government as a necessary one. I am looking at this "man-made" flood as if it were natural, and as such I do not believe the people should be reimbursed. The people should have known about the levees and the possibility that they could be used to divert flood waters, and they should have taken proper actions to get their homes insured from this type of event. I took the same stance on those who lost their homes due to Katrina.

The entire area behind the levee was/is a flood zone, that even without the levee a flood is expected to hit it regardless.
