To who and based on what? Would you have said the judge who ruled on gay marriage in California should have stepped down or at least recused himself?

What about a judge with ties to groups like...say...La Raza? Or as someone else mentioned the Boy Scouts. Has there been any indicators of judicial impropriety or is it just because people disagree with it and think it looks bad. Im guessing there are at least a few congressmen and judge types that are members of...say Augusta National.

were i to bring a title VII gender discrimination cased before the court in his jurisdiction i would seek his recusal based on his club membership

not acquainted with it, nor interested enough to become familiar

The code forbids federal judges from being members of clubs that discriminate based on race or gender.

this is why. if someone wants to argue about other instances, fine, but in this case, the judge is violating the code.

And seeking his recussal from that specific case would be an appropriate recourse for a participant in the trial, as would ANY case where the judge had a connection that might indicate bias. Good point. Does that mean they should be disbarred or forced to end associations where there are no indications of impact?

By a vote of 10-8, apparently the judicial committee disagrees with you.

In your opinion. And in the opinion of 8 dissenting judges. But apparently 10 see things differently than the 8...and you.
