Re: Should Obama's Admin Apologize to Native Americans for Using "Geronimo" codeword?

I thought the whole point of a codeword was to apply a name which may or may not be related to a thing, so that you could refer to that thing without giving away what you were talking about to an uninitiated eavesdropper.

Hell, they've probably got a book somewhere with a list of codewords and they just work their way down it every time they need one -- sort of how we name hurricanes and so forth.

This is either complete idiocy or a grab for attention and nothing more.
I'm already gearing up for Finger Vote 2014.

Just for reference, means my post was a giant steaming pile of sarcasm.

At the same time I agree there are a lot of folks looking for insult where none was intended. Those people are usually non minority white folks or race baiters that have made a career out of stirring **** up. I remember back when the Atl Braves were under attack to change their team name. Everyone thought it was a good idea...except the tribes that were producing their merchandise.
i'm not sure i understand the problem here. if i were a descendant of geronimo, i would be honored.

Yep...and several university programs. MOST of the time teams select nicknames because they secretely are self loathing and want to associate themselves with things they despise!

I dont think it would be palatable if we went through the country and cleansed every street, university, park, and government facility of all Indian names and titles.

Geronimo would almost certainly be pleased with the use of his name in this context.

Do you agree? Is an apology in order?

(I admit, I'm especially curious what the liberals here think. )
Only a ****en retard thinks an apology is in order.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

I guess the first to go would be our military's helicopter fleet
Nobody who wins a war indulges in a bifurcated definition of victory. War is a political act; victory and defeat have meaning only in political terms. A country incapable of achieving its political objectives at an acceptable cost is losing the war, regardless of battlefield events.

Bifurcating victory (e.g. winning militarily, losing politically) is a useful salve for defeated armies. The "stab in the back" narrative helped take the sting out of failure for German generals after WWI and their American counterparts after Vietnam.

All the same, it's nonsense. To paraphrase Vince Lombardi, show me a political loser, and I'll show you a loser.

I always thought liberals channeling dead people was silly but not unreasonable for liberals but this is ridiculous.
