It was a codeword, nothing more. Yet another example of political correctness gone out of control.

There's a difference between using Geronimo as an inspiration and calling OBL Geronimo. In the mission transmission, what does "Geronimo" mean?

I don't really think an apology is needed, and frankly I'm getting sick of everyone being so ****ing thin skinned in this world to the point where honestly we can't even recognize honest to goodness racism or insults because every minor, non-intended thing gets made out to be a big freaking deal.

And no, contrary to what someone said ealier, I would have absolutely no qualms with it being "Reagan EKIA" or "Patten EKIA" or hell "Bauer EKIA" for all I care. You want to do Redneck Cracker EKIA, I'm fine with that too. Its a code name, one I'm sure not a crap ton of thought was put into. For all we know "GERONIMO" was used without even thinking of the Native American Warrior but rather the exclamation commonly used by kids on up when taking a plunge into something.

Do you agree? Is an apology in order?

(I admit, I'm especially curious what the liberals here think. )

No, Obama's admin shouldn't apologize. It's just a code word and is in no way offensive. People get too up-tight about things like this. I really think people mainly do it to flex some kind of ego muscle.

President Obama should definitely apologize because:

    A. he absolutely loves to apologize for the U.S. but never for anything he's done. He just apologizes for other people and I'm getting tired of apologizing for him.

    B. Unfortunately, on a list of things President Obama should apologize for, this one would be number 1, 693.

I can see why some would be upset. I dont see anything wrong with acknowledging their perspective and moving on.

At the same time I agree there are a lot of folks looking for insult where none was intended. Those people are usually non minority white folks or race baiters that have made a career out of stirring **** up. I remember back when the Atl Braves were under attack to change their team name. Everyone thought it was a good idea...except the tribes that were producing their merchandise.

Similar situation with the Washington Redskins
Nobody who wins a war indulges in a bifurcated definition of victory. War is a political act; victory and defeat have meaning only in political terms. A country incapable of achieving its political objectives at an acceptable cost is losing the war, regardless of battlefield events.

Bifurcating victory (e.g. winning militarily, losing politically) is a useful salve for defeated armies. The "stab in the back" narrative helped take the sting out of failure for German generals after WWI and their American counterparts after Vietnam.

All the same, it's nonsense. To paraphrase Vince Lombardi, show me a political loser, and I'll show you a loser.
