The Pakistani government is bribed enough to give us access to their country. Various groups within Pakistan don't take the same view and consider the U.S. an enemy. The U.S is not at war with Pakistan because of insurgents within their borders than we are at war with Mexico for harboring drug lords. Pakistan has nuclear weapons and getting into a real war with them is too stupid to even consider.

So long as we have the assets forward-deployed that we do, I'm less concerned with them going nuclear. We would have enough indication of that to put some of our bunker-defeat technology to work, and we are getting damn good and getting into those places. Libya has been wonderful for the hard-target community; as it has allowed them to test all those theories they've been working on since 2003 into a live-fire practice.

Yeah, are you really going risk millions of lives betting that the same guys who were so stupid they thought Saddam had WMD's are going achieve 100% accuracy in locating every single every Pakistani nuclear weapon? In the same country where Bin Laden hid for 5 years in a fricking suburb? There is nothing in Afghanistan worth taking such a dangerous risk, especially since losing the supply link is probably game over anyways. The only sane option is to simply leave.

Really. So we somehow missed Bin Laden living in a suburb, but are aware of the location of every single Pakistani nuclear weapon? Especially considering we don't know how many weapons exist in the first place.

nukes are one thing - delivery systems is another - and bunkers protecting both are a third. We've pretty thoroughly got the world mapped at this point, and yeah, we have every major bunker system on file. It's easy to hide a person - it's damn near impossible to hide a nuclear bunker. It doesn't actually take that much to knock out a complex system of the type necessary to employ a nuclear missile, the trick isn't finding it, it's digging down to it, and we are getting very, very good at that. Pakistan is an extremely fragile nation with chaotic and deadly elements that pose a serious threat to the national government - do you honestly think that we don't have every single one of those in place with a variety of options for each?
