    Fuel cells aren't a power source. The hydrogen gas needed to power the cell needs energy in order to be created.

    Electrolysis has one major advantage - it can vary dramatically and act like a buffer to sweep excess electricity to produce hydrogen. For example, if you have that buffer in any town, it would balance the grid and produce hydrogen for various purposes, like this for example.
