Walmart isn't bad but the people at Ingles are more personable.
They know my kids.

I hate the crowds at Walmart.

Ingles for the win. I thnk there are 4 or 5 Ingles in my town. Every one of them is kept well.

I make good money and buy the cheapest brands most of the time. My question was should people who make more pay more no matter if they choose the organic milk or the off-brand milk.

I doubt it. The cheapest would be powerdered or condensed milk. That is typically what you would find at a food bank.

The fact is that richer people do pay more for virtually the same product.

Be realistic. Liberals wait outside and take your groceries. It's called "redistribution".

Well, sales tax is regressive, because a $100 shop for someone earning $20,000 is a far bigger pecentage of their income than for someone earning $200,000 or $2,000,000, therefore it taxes the poor more than it taxes the rich.

The logistics of the idea of 'progressive' sales tax make it practicably impossible, hence the need for progressive income and property taxes.

Let's cover Income Tax first:

An idividual with 3 kids making 25K a year pays $0.00 in Federal Income Tax, actually, they receive 100% back that they paid into it plus additional credits for having kids and working. This is basic Reaganomics & the Trickle down theory. It's why every Feb. we have a boost to the economy as the poor get their EIC and go blow it on big screens and x-boxes.

Individuals how make $200,000.00 or $2,000,000.00 a year do not receive 100% of their paid Federal Income Tax back, in fact, they actually pay up to 25% of their taxable income into Federal Taxes and qualify for No EIC. I would say this is a progressive income tax.

Next up, Property Tax. Property taxes are based upon the value of your home. You want cheaper property taxes, then move to a house that has a lower value, it's that simple. Someone in $30K house pays less in Property Taxes than someone who lives in a $100K house. Now, the individual in the $100K house more than likely makes more than the individual in the $30K house, which is why they can afford the more expensive home and are thus paying higher taxes. This is called a Progressive Tax.

Now, if the tax rate is 1% of the Property value for all, then how are the poor being taxed more?

If your house is worth $30k then you will pay $300 in taxes. If your house is worth $300k then you will pay $1,000.00 in taxes. See how that works?

Are you now going to arguing that 1% of a poor person's income is greater in comparison than 1% of a rich person's income?

Sales tax: It's a percentage of the amount you spend. In Ohio Food is not taxable, so buy all the food you want and pay no taxes. In PA clothes are not taxable so buy all the clothes you want and pay no taxes. Live near the Ohio/PA border in WV and you'll really pay no taxes hardly. Low property values in WV, No food tax in Ohio & no clothing tax in PA. You want to quit paying income tax? Move to Florida or NV and get out of State Income tax.

You want to quit paying sales tax, then quit buying taxable goods or buy the cheapest ones you can.

So, where are all these weird ideas coming from. The blatantly unconstitutional "progressive" taxation scam (try reading the Fourteenth Amendment, people. taxing people more because they have more is a violaton of the Equal Protection Clause) has not benefitted the United States. In recent years the punitive taxation policies have caused businesses to flee the country. It stifles investment and created entire industries dedicated to nothing but finding ways to hide money from the tax man.

If we follow the progressive tax logic it would a progressive price too. :doh
Otherwise I don't see any sense.

People attempting to make bad analogies.

Good work, when you mentioned it earlier, I thought to myself that has to be where this silly question came form.

Actually it came from Harry's poll question about grades.

Well, we sort of already have this. It's called food stamps and WIC.

The reason why we don't have this is because it's much harder to regulate, causes a lot of bureaucracy and makes it harder for the people to track how much they get taxed.

Also, it would cause bad incentives. Because there is never an even ratio of high paying and low paying customers. High paying customers will direct their spending towards investment while low paying customers will spend a lot more. This will cause the government to lose a lot of revenue.

I don't really see why some conservatives are against progressive taxation, or at least don't mind it that much. I'm a conservative because I despise the values of multiculturists, bleeding heart liberals and trade union supporters. Even Hong Kong got progressive taxation. I just don't want trade unions to control my work place, decide my wage and hours and take my tax money. I want to punish criminals and I'm no fan of luxury prisons. I don't want senseless immigration policies just because some people have decided that we have a obligation to "save" the world. (This applies to Europe, not New Zealand).

However, I would never support a flat income tax. People that earn more should pay more because they have a better ablity to pay. I'm more concerned about the overall defecit and Obama's lack of will to do anything about it.

We all know about the progressive income tax - the more you make, the more you pay. Would you support that idea at the grocery store as well? If you make over a certain amount, you have to pay an inflated price for your gallon of milk. If you make under a certain amount, you get the gallon of milk for free or for very little money. This idea would only increase the costs for all.

Would this work in our society? Would you approve of it?Two noes..or is it "no's".
Imagine a rich man's grocery store in a gated community, would their prices be different than those of Walmart ?
Right now, the poor, in many cases pay more than the rich, due to location, crime, and their ignorance.

It basically works that way now between workers & those on welfare. The more a worker makes, the more he pays into welfare. So I approve of the way it is.
