Is This Good Use of Our Tax Dollars? Busting The Amish

A yearlong sting operation, including aliases, a 5 a.m. surprise inspection and surreptitious purchases from an Amish farm in Pennsylvania, culminated in the federal government announcing this week that it has gone to court to stop Rainbow Acres Farm from selling its contraband to willing customers in the Washington area.

The product in question: unpasteurized milk.

It’s a battle that’s been going on behind the scenes for years, with natural foods advocates arguing that raw milk, as it’s also known, is healthier than the pasteurized product, while the Food and Drug Administration says raw milk can carry harmful bacteria such as salmonella, E. coli and listeria.

“It is the FDA’s position that raw milk should never be consumed,” said Tamara N. Ward, spokeswoman for the FDA, whose investigators have been looking into Rainbow Acres for months, and who finally last week filed a 10-page complaint in federal court in Pennsylvania seeking an order to stop the farm from shipping across state lines any more raw milk or dairy products made from it.

The farm’s owner, Dan Allgyer, didn’t respond to a message seeking comment, but his customers in the District of Columbia and Maryland were furious at what they said was government overreach.

“I look at this as the FDA is in cahoots with the large milk producers,” said Karin Edgett, a D.C. resident who buys directly from Rainbow Acres. “I don’t want the FDA and my tax dollars to go to shut down a farm that hasn’t had any complaints against it. They’re producing good food, and the consumers are extremely happy with it.”
    Yes, it's from here:

    Amish Busted Over Milk

Yep, your reading this right. The Obama Administration (Love to see someone blame this mess on George W.) has spent our tax dollars on a year long investigation to bust an Amish Farmer for selling Unpastuerized milk to people who want it. What the Flamers?

Now, with gasoline in NE Ohio at $4.15 a gallon, a $14 Trillion dollar deficit, 3 wars currently going on, 10% + unemployment and a myriad of other issues, Obama this week has chosen to accomplish the following this:

    1. Show us his Long Form Birth Certificate
    2. Bust an Amish Farmer for selling a natural product that is sold in grocery stores in every town across the nation. The only difference being, he didn't pastuerize his.
    3. To spend $200K to fly an Astronauts wife to a space shuttle launching by sending her a private Air Force Jet. Yeah, that happened this week.

So, is this really conscientious use of our tax dollars?

It's pitiful but he is one of those dangerous religious fanatics.

When my kids were little we bought raw milk and made butter and cheese. Not any more. Federal offense.

Is there no end to the nanny state?

Is it illegal to sell non-pasteurized milk? If so, then yes. If not, then no.

Also I have no idea why anyone would want to drink un-pasteurized milk anyway.

If it is illegal... i think that would be ridiculous, but yea you got to enforce the law.

Silly buggers should leave the Amish alone. I mean it is bad enough they can't use buttons or zippers or the phone, without getting busted for selling illegal MILK.

Yeah, this is a good use of our govenrmental resources. Gotta keep those Amish in line, and it is safer than trying to take down Mexican drug cartels...

It is illegal, however like bootleg alcohol, people still buy and sell it anyway.

The problem mainly lies with mass produced unpasteurized milk.
Cow need their utters cleaned and sometimes **** drops in the milk during "milking" so pasteurization is the method of removing those harmful bacteria.

If one is careful and makes sure to uphold sanitary conditions, unpasteurized milk is fine.

In other news, millions of illegal aliens are stealing money out of citizens' pockets. I guess we'll just let that slide.

Your poll answers are not surprisingly slanted. The correct answer to my mind is "upholding the laws of the US is a good use of our tax dollars".
