Prostitution: Constitutional or Unconstitutional? You Decide

It's the oldest profession in the world they say, prostitution. In some countries it totally legal. In other countries (mostly western and especially the United States except for Reno) it is illegal.

The question is, under the United States Constitution, including all of the Amendments is it Constitutional or Unconstitutional for one to lease/rent their body out for the sexual pleasure of another?

Since this is stupid post day, why not.

Well in my opinion, a woman can do with her body what she pleases. The government shouldn't have the say so over what she can or can't do with herself. Thats like the government saying you're no longer allowed to finger yourself, sorry,

A person owns there body, it is their innate property. Prostitution should be legal, taxed, and unionized.

America stands for freedom. So why not?

off// I'd rather worry about seat belts. If the government thinks you can kill somebody else with your own body flying over in a car accident, that's OK to have such a law. Otherwise I don't see why seat belts have to be mandatory.

I don't think the Constitution legalizes abortion. It may be a woman's body, but that doesn't mean she has the legal right to sell herself for sex. We don't, and shouldn't have the right to do whatever we want to with our bodies. Part of law is regulating choices to ensure that good ones are made and bad ones are punished.

Some people need to read the Constitution. It isn't a Constitutional issue. It's a state issue. That's why it's legal in Nevada and not legal in Illinois.

I think there could be a lot of self-benefit in unionization including getting rid of pimps essentially and obtaining fair wages. We could in general have a more healthy industry under which everyone makes better money (well I guess except the Johns, right?). You have mandated testing and regulations on houses, you can remove women from the often abusive relationship of hooker and pimp. I mean, you'll never get rid of street walking, but if you go to a union endorsed and supported whore house you're probably at least promoting the well being of whores more so than hiring one off the streets.

In the end, prostitution in any form will never go away and it's not really in and off itself a "crime" (where's the victim?). So since that seems to be the case, might as well allow it and regulate it to ensure proper working conditions and wages.

In other words it falls under the Tenth Amendment.
