I have at one point in my life worn the queens emblem on my beret.

I'm a bit of a traditionalist... And I approve of the Queen especially.

I could say the same about the presidency, who has far more power and pomp then was ever intended.
Just because people approve doesn't mean they serve a useful purpose. The Presidency is an important office, which actually holds power, and not just a glorified cheerleader. An expensive one at that.

Your opinion on this matter is precisely that.

The royal family over all, I don't really approve of, but the Queen has been a good Queen, and the monarchy has been a source of inspiration and hope in dire moments in our history.

I don't get it when Americans get so irate about something that doesn't effect them, but we choose to keep for ourselves.

Like I said glorified cheerleaders. And I'm not irate about it, I just think it's ripping off the English people. If they want to live off government money, they should be given what people on welfare should receive, and if they want to live any better, they can make their own money.

Jet where did you get 75% from? I would have thought it was more 50 or 60, although like i say from what i observe most are ambivalent.

It's not every American, most of us just don't care. I will say that no American has any right to accuse the Royals of being expensive considering the pleasure trips Michelle Obama and her entourage have taken on our dime.

The Monarchy cost 62p ($1) per taxpayer last year. It remains a huge tourism draw.
As for the wedding, it looks like being a largely middle-class celebration, with a nationalist twist. Applications to close streets for local street parties total only 5000 so far. Almost none of those are from the poorer or working class locations, and countrywise, only 156 of those are from Wales, with just 30 in Scotland. Apathy is running at fever pitch up there!

It's just part of the culture... they have a legit title, the people choice to continue honoring it

BTW... from what some people in the UK are saying, the family isn't supported by the taxpayers, so I would guess the tax payers aren't funding the wedding either.

I don't see how people are saying the family has no power... The family has a huge amount of power and influence in the world. I have never followed the royal family, so I can't say if I approve or disapprove of them. I just don't understand why some Americans are so interested in this wedding.
