So Christine O'Donnell and Michelle Bachmann are the Tea Party? Then it's just as fair to say that the professor I quoted is the Democratic party.

It's actually not fair at all because the professor is not a politician endorsed by the Democratic Party whereas the Tea Party has chosen O'Donnell and Bachmann as Representatives of its movement. When that professor becomes an official representative of the Democratic Party, we'll talk.

They have chosen? Or did O'Donnell and Bachmann decide? I don't remember the Tea Party holding a referendum to choose these people.

Chosen. They were both endorsed by national and local Tea Party organizations.

And those are chosen by the actual Tea Partiers? It's my understanding that these are people who just show up and that the organizations are just the people who organize the events.

So if a movement or a party or a group endorses someone who is crazy, even if they're just one of many....then that movement/group/party's entirety is crazy? Because that seems to be what you're saying by justifying calling all of the tea party crazy based on their support for two people.

    1. They are two of the biggest Tea Party candidates. If the biggest Democrat or normal Republican candidates were as ridiculous as Bachmann and O'Donnell, then you would have a valid point. However, the biggest representatives of Dems and normal Reps are not crazy.

    2. Rand Paul, Carl Paladino, Mike Lee, Sharron Angle, etc. In other words, it's not just a few.

They are endorsed by the prominent national Tea Party organizations like FreedomWorks and Tea Party express in addition to their local Tea Party chapters. I think both of them have also been featured speakers at Tea Party rallies.

There has been no referendum; you're building an argument on sand.

How so? When Tea Party organizations endorse candidates, they are representatives of the Tea Party. I'm sorry you don't like it. Please suggest a way of determining who Tea Partiers endorse as politicians - after all they are a group for political change, so they must have people in mind.
