Either way, bias doesn't require active discrimination, bigotry or racism. Everybody has biases and not everybody actively discriminates, is bigoted or is racist.

What did you mean by the bolded? Weren't you suggesting that not all biases are bad? That I agree with. However if you are suggesting that everyone has a bias (in a bad way) toward blacks but just don't actively discriminate, you are dead wrong and I feel sorry for you.
I'm sorry, but to say the TP is racially biased, and then try to cover it up by suggesting that isn't an insult..... is insulting to all TP members, black and white.

Thank you. I'll stop my rant on it on as soon as theplaydrive stops defending the statement.

I didn't suggest it. I explicitly said it. I'm glad we agree.

However if you are suggesting that everyone has a bias (in a bad way) toward blacks but just don't actively discriminate, you are dead wrong and I feel sorry for you.
No I didn't suggest that at all. The fact that you would get that out of any of my statements illustrates your own problems. I started off this thread explicitly saying that the Tea Party was not inherently racist, but for some reason you have some need to attach to a liberal of choice in every thread and turn their ACTUAL words into what you WANT them to have said. It's time to stop.

I'm sorry, but to say the TP is racially biased, and then try to cover it up by suggesting that isn't an insult..... is insulting to all TP members, black and white.
Great, I don't think you understand the word biased or insult.

Except, I never "defended" the statement - I haven't taken a position on its accuracy. I have only countered your ridiculous interpretations of it.

Either that, or very stupid, as I said. A case could certainly be made for birthers being very stupid as well. Those are the only two choices for someone that denies Obama was born in Hawaii.

Is it your contention birthers are very stupid as opposed to being racist?

I think absolutism is a core tenet of conservatism and this poll being a binary question follows that nicely.

Re: Is the Tea Party racist?

In regards to the Tea Party and racism, one has to recognize a dichotomy at work here: One one hand we have a group, a sincere group albeit the sincerity is united by fear, primarily due to the GOP machine and FOX news, and on the other hand, we have minorities in America that have been terrorized by racism, so the proper conclusion is: Although there may be some merit to this movement there also needs to be some responsibility to the larger picture of America's ugly racist past. In other words, you just can't organize demonstrations comprised of white America and not expect some criticism???

Also, there needs to be a dialogue sooner or later, an intellectual exchange in other words that embraces a broader narrative and for the sake of a better word...maybe multi-culturalism??? Since we don't see ant attempts at this, we can only conclude that fear, racism and ignorance are very prevalent in this movement. This...this notion of "don't tread on me". Well how about, let's tread together as a collective to work on the issues.
