Whats Worse? Salt or Sugar?

Whats Worse for you? Salt or Sugar?

sugar. salt is required, and studies have shown that there is no medical or scientific need to reduce salt intake if you do not have an underlying medical issue.

Whats worse for the human body?
Salt?
or Sugar?

Welllll, I'm not going to Google it, but "it depends."

If you are a diabetic, sugar is poison.
If you have congestive heart failure, salt is poison.

If you're a healthy human being, either one in moderation is no problem. ;)

Depends also on what kind of salt and sugar.

A lot of products have "sugar" but its really corn syrup, not too good for you. Organic cane sugar can be somewhat beneficial (not to mention tasty).

Iodized table salt is not very good for you either, but natural sea salt can be somewhat good for you.

The key in all this is quantity, too much of any salt and too much of any sugar can be bad for you.

Just know your limit! :2razz:

Each one is delicious.

UC Davis News & Information :: New Evidence Shakes up Perceptions of Salt
The researchers evaluated 24-hour urinary sodium excretion, the standard measure of daily sodium intake, from 19,151 individuals collected in 62 previously published surveys from 33 countries worldwide. In contrast to the widely held notion that salt intake has reached extreme levels in Western societies, the analysis indicates that daily sodium intake across a wide range of “food environments” tracks within a relatively narrow range: 117 mmol–212 mmol (2,700–4,900 mg). In addition, previous studies provide supportive evidence that adult humans naturally seek this range of sodium intake.
...the current daily intake guidelines call for a maximum daily intake of 2,300 mg of sodium, the equivalent of one teaspoon of table salt. These recommendations are already 17 percent lower than the lowest level of worldwide sodium intake (2,700 mg) and 38 percent lower than the worldwide average sodium intake (3,700 mg).

With a Grain of Salt: Why You May Not Need to Limit Your Sodium Intake
"Cutting sodium by about 50 percent lowers blood pressure, which could lead to a reduction in cardiovascular disease," says Michael H. Alderman, MD, professor of epidemiology and population health at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, New York. "However, no clinical trials have ever been conducted to show that's the case."

In fact, some observational studies have found that a sodium intake of less than 2,300 milligrams a day has no effect on heart disease, and other research reveals that people who consume less salt are actually more likely to have heart attacks or strokes. "The theory that reducing sodium will make us healthier may be true, but it needs to be proved before we make widespread rec*ommendations," Dr. Alderman notes. Until more research is done, he says, there's no evidence that healthy women with normal blood pressure need to limit salt.

I use Nosalt and Splenda. Somehow I still get the impression I am slowly marching towards death.

Seriously, seriously, with these 2 delicious products available there's no reson to use the real. The doctor came in my room and looked at the ingredients of the Nosalt. Hewas assured it contained whatever is necessary from real salt.

I said, "Oh yeah, Dude, they got it in there!

I say neither. Now if they are taken in excess or if you have some sort of health problem then they can be bad for you.

That made me laugh.

Been there, done that. Nothing to it!

I'm pretty sure we go on to some new adventure and I hope it's less noisey

Ha! I'm with you!

Someone famously quoted something like this -- that I am so badly bastardizing as to be practically useless!

When asked if he was afraid of death, he said: I didn't exist for millions of years and don't remember it being at all inconvenient...

anything in the extreme isn't good, so moderate whatever your intake is.

I voted other...because I believe both are bad for us in excess. If you have high blood pressure than certainly salt is worse for you and if you have diabetes or are borderline or obese then sugar is worse...

I have a sweet tooth, so I am biased....

This is one of the more tied across the board, polls Ive seen. I thought there would be a distinct decision

Sex is the cause of all deaths. If your parents had never had sex, you would never die....

It depends on what kind of sugar, and what kind of salt. All table salt is not just sodium chloride. If you research how it is made, you will see there are other contents. Sea salt is somewhat better. Himalayan salts and other mountain based salts are the best because they are an organic salt that your body can easily absorb.

Refined, white sugar is basically poison. There is no reason for humans to be eating it. Brown sugar is not far behind. Blackstrap molasses, maple syrup, raw and unpasteurized honey, and blue agave are better sugars for your body. They still contain sugar but not as a concentrate, and there are other vitamins and minerals found in those (as long as you don't heat them to high temp).

It's how you obtain sugars and salts that matters more. Nothing in of itself is "bad" for you.

I have swollen feet, For a couple of years. Really it come and goes. My sister is totality freaked about it. Swear it's not so bad. I have to use effort to pit on my shoes and a horn,

My doctor won;t give me lysics lysine? He wants me to wear like pantyhose! I'm thinking maybe NO! I use just a little of the nosalt but it seems to come and go at will. Like God's mad at me or not.

God looks so nice today! He's the best God ever. Has he been working out, ya think?

Sugar is bad for your teeth, salt is not.

What's really bad for me is other people nagging me about salt or sugar. Even strangers from the U.S. feel they have a right to tell me what to do.
