I'm pretty stupid about retirement questions, yes. It doesn't concern me right now so I haven't really asked.

Yes, I would be fine with the pensions for teachers in my state going away. I can save for my own retirement, thanks.

mellie, it isn't about retirement questions. don't you get a w2? paychecks? how can you argue economics here if you don't even know what comprises your paycheck? i'm actually stunned.

Yes, lib, I obviously get those things. I just looked at my last paystub from school. I don't see any SS taken out. My other job...yes. What else would you like to know?

So what? How much would you be willing to bet I will get most of it, if not more back?

I gave up caring about this country years ago. When we have selected government officials suspending elected officials and debtors prisons all over again, they lost any kind of loyalty.

So the US can go to hell for all I care. So this information (as if I didn't know ) means nothing.

Old enough, plenty and I don't intend to die at any point.

Not really. Well maybe if you stay in this country. My wife and I will be retiring to the Caribbean thank you.

Why yes I do. I have super powers so I can do that.

Will, this is the same scare tactic Republicans have been using on Seniors for the last what? 30 years? They will not let social security fail. Come hell or high water. Now cuts may happen, and some reductions in other benefits, OK.

You can retire at 62 through 67 and any time later. What the heck does 70 have to do with it.

Many people have paid into SS for most of their life, paid to educate our children and now you have the gall to call us greedy because we want a return on our SS investment. I have a better idea why don't you and those who think like you increase the amount you pay in to insure that the SS program continues

    Btw I am 64
You already got your return. Your payments helped to support your parents' generation through retirement. If you wanted the SS program to continue at present levels, you and those that think like you should have increased the amount you payed in to offset the burden of the boomer generation.

Re: Are YOU willing to give up YOUR Social Security?

I'm well under 40, and will probably never see any social security, as those currently over 40 will drain it to the extent that it will probably be dismantled in order to keep the country from completely going under. The net result is that the baby boomers will have managed to make the following generations pay for their excesses.
