Should ther be a "Flat Tax"?

Should there be a "Flat Tax"?

I will not spend anymore of my time re-clarifying the extreme interpretation you're implying through my words. It's clear you understand my points, but you go off on tangents about an argument that I never said. When I argued people will work harder, i was based on the fact that they aren't working nearly as hard as they could be and/or need to be, as I explained - not because they'll have an opportunity to be taxed. My argument that the poor will work more if taxed is not saying they will jump up and down for joy at the opportunity of being taxed.

Yes, your argument was nonsense. Repeating nonsense doesn't alter is essential nature. If the poor could work harder, they would work harder, at least those who dislike being poor would do so.

Do you see what I'm saying?

Yes, you're ignoring realities of economics and human nature.

People who pay taxes pay attention to what their money is spent on. Expanding the pool of taxpayers expands the number of people who will become seriously pissed off at the socialists and liberals in all political parties who can never find anything to cut from a budget."

This is not my goal,

That's the Mayor's goal, the restoration of Constitutional government and the Republic.

Every time this allegation if foisted in the debate I ask the same question and it is never answered:

If the Fair Tax is revenue neutral, and if the Fair Tax will seriously reduce taxes upon the rich, who is it that pays more to make up for those revenues?

actually a narrow band of the wealthy will see their tax burden go up; but that's neither here nor there. the people now being taxed include illegal aliens, those who exist in the black market, visitors to our shores, and those who currently use tax loopholes to minimize or avoid paying taxes.

Has anyone ever considered a flat tax on everything you make after 20,000 or so? Maybe only tax what the person earns over the poverty line or something. I just don't want to live in a country that requires a single mother earning 15000 a year to pay over 2000 in taxes (and that's at 15%, I don't believe the estimate that the flat tax would be at 15 %)

no. what we currently do is so stupidly complex that even the IRS doesn't understand it. trying to sum it up as "A percentage of your own income. Based on a defined chart for your income bracket" is sort of like trying to explain the complexities of human beings by saying "Carbon-based life-form".

Well what I give and get back is based on my income. So it seemed simple to me. Til I read this thread:2razz:

Really? Considering that the vast majority of the tax code has effectively nothing to do with individuals, a flat tax doesn't solve the complex problem. The biggest problem with business to individual is what and when income is defined and declared. A flat tax does absolutely nothing to solve this.

So Cpwill you going to address this massive problem of a flat tax?

I don't reject the notion that the tax code is ridiculously complex. I have to deal with that **** every day. I would LOVE for it to be made simplier. But a flat tax won't be flat nor simple and a national sales tax is completely unworkable. We are better off just stripping out deductions and credits from the current system.

the poor are not protected by the military? the poor are not allowed to use public currency? they do not drive on public roads? their children do not attend public education? they do not recieve money from medicaid, welfare, food stamps, etc.? Police refuse to arrest those who prey on them? they aren't allowed to vote?

The poor are the military. The poor shouldn't pay any taxes. If you want them to pay taxes learn them not to be poor.

who is saying that the tax wouldn't be flat across the board, or need even contain a corporate tax (which we need to admit is just a badly organized sales tax) at all?

A tax that would be 10 - 15% or whatever number for EVERYONE across the board.
Regardless if they could afford it or not !
Now the concept of a consumption tax has some merits; IMO, loop holes should be examined and filled as necessary, otherwise - no changes.
And all of the rates should be restored to the Clinton levels.

Flat tax= huge tax decrease for the rich...huge tax increase for the middleclass another conjob

the reason why this country has a massive deficit and massive government is that the majority of voters are not charged for what they want. if people had to pay for what they want they would either pay more taxes or not support big spending politicians

and the rich think they are entitled to it ALL free servitude and public services, police, fire, teachers to babysit their kids all day ALL FOR FREE they are entitled because they are RICH and they shouldnt have to pay a dime in taxs either...WHO the hell do these piss ant lazy worthless dirtbag middleclass workers and public workers think they are..pfffffffffffffffft
