No need to lie about it for it to hurt republicans. Just point to Medicare changes. Just point to the changes to tax code.
Medicare would go away, seniors would be given a voucher to buy health insurance. What insurance company is going sell insurance to a senior?

It is a state run pool. I think that for insurance to be sold in that state, they would need to be part of that pool kinda thing. The CBO points out that this will raise the cost of insurance for every one.

One the reasons Medicare was started in the first place was because the insurance companies didn't want this business.

I think this is largely going to depend on what the Democrats do.

I think if they actually legitimately tackle medicare/medicaid and/or Social Security in a truly substantive way that admits these things are broken and need some significant reform beyond simply "Raise taxes on the top 5%!!!!!", and they move forward with that along with some kind of significant deficit reducing budget then it could be harmful to republicans.

I think if they punt again, act like the things aren't broken or just need a bandaid, think that raising a tax is going to magically fix it all or just saying "we'll tackle waste and fraud!" is actually a fix then I think you're looking at either a wash or a significant boon for Republicans depending on what way the public wind is blowing at that time.

Whether you agree with it or not, this will mark the second time this decade where Republicans have significantly and greatly attempted to address the issues with our entitlement programs that are going to bankrupt this country on their current path while we have had no real, honest, and substantive suggestions coming from the Democrats. Does that mean Ryan's plan should absolutely happen, or is the best? No. But this is one of those cases where I think enough people realize there's something wrong here and aren't going to want to penalize one side for at least TRYING if the other sides doing jack and **** beyond punting.

Well Z, it's quite simple. If you were a Democrat, reforming even $1 worth of Welfare, SS or Medicare would like jamming a screwdriver into your eye, then stuff a stick of dynamite into the hole and blowing up your head.

You mean they didn't want to treat people for free?

Surely you can figure out that the health insurance companies don't want older people as customers, can't you?

I agree with most of your post, the democrats are much better positioned to gain on this issue with most of america if they dont go left wing nuts...if they take the middle of the road the will expose the teaparty brats for what they are cold and quite callous towards anyone that isnt in their mind successful ENOUGH and all for the rich.
What I hear and others I know coming from them is basicall what turtledude espouses if you aint paying the top tax rate your a worthless lazy dirtbag.

So let's spend have the govt budget to care for them.

Are there any conservatives that want to have an actual discussion on the topic, or are you guys going to just stick with mindless one liner namecalling?

exactly, its not hard to demonize the gop with all the cuts to benefits that NORMAL americans have, and are currently benefiting from. not to mention the direct war on the poor and minorities brought up through defunding food stamps, now they wanna starve them too. although we've already proven as a whole, were idiots and will elect people, continuously, that are after the little we have left to give, just for corporate tax breaks. haha god were so poorly educated

Assuming they use it properly, this will absolutely help democrats. All they need to do is advertise what is actually in the bill.

i'm unaware of any such assault. are they gunning working people down in the streets? perhaps they are putting in legislation that forbids folks with working class parents from attaining government positions?

however, 6 out of 10 households recieve more from the Federal Government than they pay in taxes. you just plain don't reduce the deficit without changing that math.

evil, evil republicans, wanting you to have a job. why, the nerve of them.

oh wait, are you referncing the non-existant "tax cuts" in the Ryan plan?

yup, Republicans took a pretty big risk deciding to be the party that went first in acting like adults. Unfortunately, Democrats seem more interested in seizing what political advantage they can from Republicans making that risky move than they do in following suit. Now we get to see if the American people are fundamentally adults, or if we will bang our sippy cups and scream for endless goodies.

Or the countries' other adults will get really tired of being referred to as children by children.

I know I'm REALLY tired of hearing suspiciously incomplete examples presented as obvious fact that any adult can see.

Examples that present OBVIOUS questions that none of you will provide useful answers for. Just repetitions of the same absolute, assumptive positions that I didn't believe the first time. Delivered with what can only be described as a pompous air.

Sorry, man. You almost make sense, but your arguments are one-sided partisan presentations, not discussion.

...welcome to fiscal reality.

Brought to you by Frank Lunz, Fox News, Conservative Media and the successful fulfillment of contracts by the Public Relations industry.:2wave:

Meh

I think it will be interesting what comes out in may from the bipartisan senate committee. I am thinking that this proposal will come down between Ryan's and the presidents plan. I think that this group will come out with something more likely to be passed.

Yes yes, please...focus on them and not the conservative they quoted that WAS attempting an actual discussion on the topic. That will surely get the conversation going! ;)

Right, and make sure they add the number of jobs it will cost on each line item, all ten of them.

Most people find it impossible to relate with billions, can't visualize all those zeros, can't get interested, but are very much into it when it's about losing jobs.

ricksfolly

Awesome!

A useful answer to a reasonable question.

Moving the conversation forward.

Nice.:2wave:

You are a phony conservative though. They told me so!

That is the most hilarious spin on telling seniors that they will be lucky to afford health care in the future I have ever heard.

we have written ourselves a series of bad checks, and now they are coming due. the sad fact is that we can find a way to reduce medicare expenditures, or we can watch as the program collapses. the Ryan plan currently seeks to minimize the pain for our poorer retirees, give people plenty of time and ability to plan, and lower healthcare costs over time. the presidents' plan (to the extent that he has one) does none of these things. no one's trying to spin anything - this is where we are. we can grow up and face reality, or we can keep ourselves in a debt-induced high for a liiiiitle while longer until our dealer cuts us off and we crash.

and are so OBVIOUS that no doubt you don't feel the need to actually - you know - list any? I don't pretend to have mastery of the subject, but I am obsessed with it, and will be more than happy to point you to what I know and where I have found that you could find more.

Except it does not minimize that pain. Quite the opposite. The poor are the ones who will feel this change the most.

well, if he didn't want to get outed like that then he should have joined the rest of us in offering his firstborn to the service of our Prophet Sarah (pbuh).
