Intentions or Results?

Intentions or Results?

Intention: Feed the homeless.
Result: More homeless congregate where the free food is.

Modification: Distribute the free food in Santa Monica instead of your own neighborhood.
Result: More homeless in Santa Monica, fewer in Redondo Beach.

Mission accomplished?

Intention: Reduce poverty by playing Robbin' Hood.
Result: A halt to the decline in numbers of the poor.
Result: Destruction of the inner city black family.
Result: Generational dependency creating monolithic support for the Democrat Party in some minority groups.
Result: Established impossibility of modifying hand-out schemes to reduce depedency and respond to ongoing economic crises.
Result: National economic collapse.
Result: Increased dependency.
Result: More votes for the Democrats.

Which result should we focus on when deciding if the intentions should weigh more or less than the results, and who decided the Constitution didn't matter?
 
Intention: implement a war on terror in the middle east to reduce the threat of terrorists.

Results: sacrificed tens of thousands of lives and trillions of US taxpayer dollars and debt, and has only increased the number of terrorists worldwide.

Which should have been used to justify discontinuing this huge waste of money an lives?

Both. Results are harder to determine and evaluate, however.

OK. Just checking to see if it was a "trap" thread.

Both. Intentions present purpose. Results present how far towards that purpose things are progressing, and whether the results match the intention. Results do not always indicate that the intention of a project has failed. Sometimes there may be other results that are just as valuable. Also, results may just not have been met, YET.

True enough. Nobody ever thought to add in anything about the common defence when they wrote the Constittuion.
