hey hey hey! That was never proven in a court of law. Just because he and Roethlisberger get together to go troll for women doesn't mean anything! (they don't actually go out together, I was just insinuating that Roethlisberger likes rape too).

If the dick don't fit, you must acquit. Also if you find like four other dudes' semens in the girl's pussy. Kobe was a superstar, bitch wanted money. What he did was stupid, but it doesn't make him guilty of rape, even if he is guilty of being unfaithful to his wife.

Nobody who wins a war indulges in a bifurcated definition of victory. War is a political act; victory and defeat have meaning only in political terms. A country incapable of achieving its political objectives at an acceptable cost is losing the war, regardless of battlefield events.

Bifurcating victory (e.g. winning militarily, losing politically) is a useful salve for defeated armies. The "stab in the back" narrative helped take the sting out of failure for German generals after WWI and their American counterparts after Vietnam.

All the same, it's nonsense. To paraphrase Vince Lombardi, show me a political loser, and I'll show you a loser.

Well since you admit to using the word retarded all the time? I could care less what you think at this point.

That's the problem with freedom of speech - it protects speech you like as much as it protects speech you don't.

I think the fine was slightly excessive personally. Stern just wants to fulfill his "angry dictator" prophecy.

Of all the words in the English language you feel you must pick one that is so hurtful towards a whole group of people and their loved ones? I feel you can do much better. You are smarter than this.

I don't see it as a 1st Amendment issue. Professional basketball players are employed by a team, and by the league. There are certain rules they have to follow. They can say all the crap they want, but they might get penalized or punished for it. The same way Keith Olbermann getting let go by MSNBC wasn't a 1st Amendment issue. Nobody has a right to a job. Likewise, freedom of speech exists, but nobody has the right not to pay a fine for saying something out of line.

True, I agree with that. They are employees, and have to be treated as such.

Having said that, if I called someone a "f*cking f*ggot" at work I wouldn't get a six figure fine. I guess that's the price you pay for being an NBA superstar - made an example of.

Look Kali, the problem with political correctness is that it constrains speech. When I use the word "retard" I am in no way, shape, or form giving my opinion about the mentally handicapped. It is just a word, and I am using it to communicate a point. And there are certain words in our lexicon which people make too much of a fuss over. The purpose of language is to effectively communicate with others. I feel that some words effectively communicate my meaning more so than others, and retard is one of them. Should I stop saying "bastard" because all illegitimate children will feel hurt if I use it? Should I stop saying "bitch" because someone will feel bad for their pet dog? In my opinion, the proper role of language should be to describe reality as effectively as possible, an to allow people to communicate as effectively as possible. I'm tired of campaigns telling people to stop using this word or that word. It is not my intention to insult a whole group of people, i am just using a particular word to communicate how I feel.
