LOL..you do make a good point here, but as long as they go northbound and not south..it would be fine with me

@ the OP: Unless you want to go to the National Park, then a federal shutdown means nothing.
No proof here beyond anecdotal though I'm sure I could search for some V-Dot records. But I would stake my life on the suggestion that in the DC Metro Area where I live, Traffic is significantly improved on Federal Holidays. My wife's average commute is 45 minutes during the summer, an hour during the school year, and 30 minutes on a federal holiday.

Then again, the DC Metro area has likely the largest concentration of Government workers of any city in the country so its not surprising.

Re: Is shutting down the federal government an advantage?

To start, full disclosure, I am a federal employee.

My hope is for a budget to be passed with a cut in spending. Preferably I'd want even more than Republicans are suggesting, but at least some kind of decent level of cuts.

    However...

I'd rather the government shut down than it continue to go forward with these temporary measures time after time after time. The CR's are immobilizing work forces and actually WASTING money as agencies scramble to use what little money it gives them for immediete benefit because the uncertainty of the situation makes it impossible to use it with any kind of forethought or long term planning.

I would rather see the government shut down, forcing the politicians in Congress to actually get something done in some form rather than continue to slap a bandaid on the issue. I most certainly would hope that its for something closer to 2 weeks than 2 months however.

Then make more holidays... Some people need the post office and IRS to be open, and other people on medicare/medicade are still going to need to go to the doctor. I am pretty sure when the government reopens, they are just going to have to issue back checks and refunds.

    Shut it down!
There are people who have jobs that will be affected if the government shuts down... Contractors, lawyers, and CPAs for one, probably the healthcare field too

Yeah that's a horrible reason to support a government shutdown.... I have a better solution, put a 100% tax on businesses, and then they'll move away and take the employees with them!
