There is nothing demonstrably true that religion can provide the world that cannot be achieved more rationally through entirely secular means.

But srsly does the time of year really matter?
Never from a used car dealership - always from someone you know (esque) and only after you've had it thoroughly inspected.

Not everybody is rich like you.

I bought a 2 year old Durango for half price in 2001 and have had it for 10 years.

I have never had a problem with it other than regular maintenance.

Why would I have spent $40,000 for the truck when I could get it for $20,000 slightly used?

Sounds to me like you just want to show people you have money you might or might not have.

Smart rich people know that you buy things that appreciate and rent things that depreciate.

Now wih CARFAX you can check the title history and how many owners a car has had. That has tilted the business in the buyers favor, if you know how to interpret the information.

Car dealers are not inherently evil.

As someone that sells these things.... Carfax sucks. There are MANY things they dont catch. Maybe if they were $5 per report they would be worth it. But as it stands, they arent accurate (because of some mistakes) and they just dont have enough events the effect vehicles reported to them.

Problem I have with Carfax is that, unless one's car was taken to a dealer for repairs, nothing will show up for repairs. (I don'tthink.) In my head, the only thing that would set off a red flag is a short ownership period. Like: Let me get rid of this lemon. And even that may not be true, as some people buy to resell.

I don't think car dealers are inherently evil, either. But I would never ever ever buy a used car from a used car lot. I'll buy one from a dealer. They have their reputation on the line in many more ways than a used car lot. A dealer is highly unlikely to sell a car they know have problems. But they can sure do it by accident. Buyer beware.

Carfax is a tool and you can gleen a lot of information from it. Of course it is not perfect but it is better than not having the information.

I was talking about buying a used car from a new car store, as they usually have the newest used cars. Generally speaking a used car store gets auction cars and who knows where they are from.

You should always have a used car checked out by someone who knows cars, if you yourself are not knowledgable, which you should be.

Don't sell short your feelings either. If you get a bad feeling about acertain car, walk away. It is always best.

Carfax only lists title transfers so if somebody bought it to resell, it probably wouldn't show up. If there was a very short time owner, you should get a hold of that person and see why.

when you don't need one. that way you are free to bargain your way down and find the best deals. I read an account of one guy who was very successful in this regards by pursuing a strategy of scanning the classifieds for "must sell soon" or some kind of hint that the seller was in need of quick cash. then he would take 80% of the worth/asking price in cash in a briefcase with loud locks. if he wanted the car, he would simply say "look, here's my offer; you can have "X" dollars right now, for this car, in 3 minutes it can be yours" and flip open the briefcase. apparently very few people are able to walk away from actual cash staring them in the face.

Meh, even if one gets paid well, it is wise to be thrifty.
