    Re: Are you buying Iodine?

[QUOTE=BmanMcfly;1059361957]Just note how many of these I agree with here...
First, here, Yes... I agree. The greatest threat is, by a margin the Japanese people closest to the nuke plants.
That said, the governments and media have NOT been very forthcoming.

Second, I've been saying, it's prudent to be prepared for yourself and your children IN CASE that radiation from the big explosion gets recorded as much higher then was reported.. but EVEN IF YOU ARE prepared, it is NOT the time to start taking it. Can cause more problems hitting your thyroid like that then the radiation so far.

This one I'd agree, but are you talking about if it gets absorbed by the thyroid or bypasses it (assuming one had protected themselves)?

I'll assume you meant no matter what... that's 8 hours that this radiation is affecting you internally... and people typically drink more then a liter of whatever in any given day. Now, Every 2 litres works out to close to a chest x-ray of a radiation dose... how many days can you do that in a row??

How many days does it take for radiation levels to dissipate again?

[quote]dude. stepping into the sun and standing there for 15 minutes will increase your chances of developing cancer about as much as drinking a glass of that water. and that's ground contamination from the water table. not thousands of miles away after this thing has been dispersed into the entire effing pacific ocean.

Yes, I agree... mostly... a good exposure to the sun is healthy and necessary, it's the majority of people that are vitamin D deficient...

Here's a distinction that I'm making that people aren't seeming to realize : Yes, this dose of radiation that will come from this disaster is at it's worst the closer to the plant itself.

What parts of it get caught in the jetstream DO disperse... and there is a low level fallout that will spread the earth for YEARS, like what happened after Chernobyl... and so there is going to be an increase in radiation levels... the worst time is going to be the FIRST revolution around the earth that this radiation goes... and even though I do NOT think that this is anything worth panicking about, the radiation readings are off the scale one prefecture over in Japan, even though they are not releasing the data around fukushima.

I don't believe that's being done because the radiation levels are "safe" as we're being sold.

Ya, the prevailing winds are easterly... the jetstream as well...

They only reported radiation readings in the US based on what got here from the 'mini' explosion that happened, NOT the number 3 reactor explosion. The one captured by a japanese child or it would have probably been covered up and never discussed.

But, yes, I agree.... for the 37th time, I'm not living in the fear that you seem to think I am.

Meanwhile, by the sounds of things, it'd be the equivalent of you trying to tell me that shark teeth CANNOT hurt you when they got the laser pointers on their heads, and the water is chummed.

If I had to put it on a scale, of 1 - no big deal to 10 - get in your underground bunker and pray... this event is probably a 3-4. It's foolish to call it a 1... it's ALSO foolish to call it a 10... and that's not a variation of what I was saying before... even though you guys make it out like I'm putting this as an 8 or a 9.
The radiation scare is just a hoax to get you to buy iodine pills. It's part of a global conspiracy between governments and scientis... no, not scientists, but purveyors of pills.

Serves me right for trying to give a nuanced perspective...

look; they tested the sea water near Daiichi; now that's the single largest thing absorbing radiation. it had about 126 x the 'legal limit' for I-131 in drinking water. it also had 17-36 x the legal limit for Cesium 134 and 139. You would have to drink that water every day for a month in order to get up to your max recomended dosage.

    and that's on the shoreline.

    next to the plants.

it is physically impossible for the radiation in coming out of the Daiichi reactor buildings to effect the United States. I have about as good a chance as shooting you from here with a rifle.

cpwill's razor: never accuse conspiracy when simple ignorance will suffice.

Ok... put it this way, they've ALREADY had radioactive increases in the US.
    Japan Nuclear Radiation Hits Chicago

But EVEN FOX ONLY reported on the initial SMALL explosion at reactor 1. The BIG explosion was a few days later and so would be a few days behind, and is never really talked about in the MSM, from what I've seen.

Honestly, it's not just a matter of what's leeched into the ground and water, it's what got shot up into the atmosphere and coming out of those resulting fires...
Also, the fact that when you ingest you're not talking about equivalent to sunshine, because there's a diffference between what you are exposed to and what is ingested.

I also don't think you are accounting for the fact that there are "special interests" which would prefer that the severity of a disaster be downplayed.

    From your link:

The good news is that at this time, US Customs have advised that the radiation is at safe levels and was apparently the case throughout the journey. All passengers were scanned with none detained.
The radiation wasn't a problem even for the passengers on the plane.

Ok... whatever, you're completely missing the point I'm trying to make... so **** it.

You win... radioactivity is nutritious and delicious.

no, it wasn't. in fact, the comm gear on the plane itself gave the passengers roughly 2,000 times as much radiation.

actually it is; they've done plenty of studies with animals that demonstrate that your immune system is strengthened if you recieve twice the standard rates of radiation over the course of a year. similar to exercising your muscles.

    First source that study.

Second, show that whats coming out of the fukushima reactors is the same type of radiation AND NOTHING ELSE.

THEN you MIGHT have an actual point.

The fact is the only medical use of radiation (that I'm aware of) are x-rays (safe within limits and even the nurse has to leave the room ) and chemo... the radiation with chemo is pretty much to dose the tumor with radiation and powerful drugs in order to kill the cancerous cells before the chemo and radiation kills the host.

The Canadian Press: Tiny traces of radioactive fallout reach Europe from Japan, experts say

It's already spread through to iceland.
