do you deny there are left leaning posters in here who firmly believe Palin will be the 2012 GOP nominee?

Very few that I know of. Maybe one or two. There are many more, including myself who would like to see her get the nod, but I think we mostly don't think it likely.

I was just reading a few articles about Palin... It seems she is arguing with Fox News, Roger Ailes, and Bill O'Reilly.

Analysis: Sarah's static with Fox - Andy Barr - POLITICO.com

Weekly Standard says, she is becoming Al Sharpton.

Palin: "Cocked-Fist Self-Pity And Whining" - The Daily Dish | By Andrew Sullivan

What do you think, does she have a chance to be president or to have a political career?

Back in the 70s there was another politican that the supposed "intellecutuals" from both parties denounced as an "embrassesment", I believe his name was Ronald Reagan. Just like Reagan, Mrs. Palin has the gift to speak to the common person and talk on their level with no condescension and his popularity caused much the same grinding and gnashing of teeth from ALL THE SMART PEOPLE.

Minority...this removes or at least reduces the "historic" notion of the campaign. Strategically speaking, it reasonable to suggest people who are previously not interested in voting might do so if they feel it will be a "historic" event or a part of "history". By allowing your ticke to fall in that same fashion you reduce the appeal of this.

That really bothers me... I always felt McCain picked her in part because she was a minority... I don't care what Obama's race is. I don't care what's between Sarah Palin's legs... I just want a good candidate.

Yeah.. I always did think her gender had something to do with McCain's pick.. but I also felt that by him picking a minority it was by default suggesting (like many other people did) that the only reason anybody liked Obama was just because of his race. The only reason "the black vote" voted for Obama, was race... the only reason he beat Hillary was because of race.

That's just utter BS, and if McCain really did pick her because of identity politics and then accused Obama of being sexist and playing the race card, then it was a political ploy and that makes McCain the actual sexist and a race baiter...

Ok then... go vote for Palin... she isn't going to get elected no matter what.

Wow...Walter is engaging in a serious logical fallacy here.

1) Reagan was someone who intellectuals derided. Reagan was successful.
2) Palin is also someone who intellectuals derided. Therefore Palin will be just like Reagan!

Anyone else see the problem here?

she doesn't have to bother. all she has to do is exist and they will go after her. even if she is never a candidate ever again, they will still keep attacking her and bringing her up.

not at all true --- the day she leaves politics is the day no liberal in the world cares if she lives or dies

I think you're incredibly naive about politics and political science/strategy if you believe that there wasn't a segment of the population (and I mean that completely generically, not specifying a particular segment) that voted for Obama because of his race, voted for McCain because of Obama's race, voted for Obama because they'd be part of something "historic", voted for Obama because it was "Cool", voted for McCain based on nothing but him having been in the military, voted for Obama because he was handsomer, voted for McCain because he was older, voted for Obama because he was younger, etc.

The voting public, especially in presidential elections, is not equal to the political active segment of the population. Everyone that votes doesn't do so due to a strong feeling on issues or a thorough understanding of the various parties. Superficial reasons do factor in for some people, even providing the conscious or subconscious primary motivations.

As far as the race issue alone, you can not sit here with a straight face and tell me that the man who later had a song made about him called "My President is Black" did not receive some votes simply because individuals felt that he was the same race as them and thus would identify with their desires better and expect me to believe it. Do I think it was a sizable thing that single handedly swept him into office? No. But I think its ridiculously ignorant of political reality to suggest there weren't people that did do it.

Simple fact is politics is not simply about the issues, and talk to any political strategist and they'll tell you the same.

I don't think Palin wants to be a politician. That would require actual effort and hard work that she has already shown she doesn't want... i.e., she loved running for governor, hated having to do the actual job.

Palin wants to be a celebrity. She wants crowds, fans, followers, adulation. She can get all of that she wants without inconveniencing herself by actually, you know, doing a job. She can sign books. Do tv talk shows. Dance with the Stars.

She just wants to be a celebrity, and hell, if Lindsey Lohan can manage that, so can Palin.

considering how many lefties on the board desperatly want her to win the GOP nomination in 2012 (and completely believe she will), the current poll results must be in error.

They are completely consistent. Sure, Palin is every lefties fantasy pick, that is if you want to ensure a cakewalk for Obama. No one, however, thinks she has a shot of getting the nomination, even if her bottomless ego compels her to run.

For one, Palin makes Reagan look like a Rhodes scholar.

Even the far-righties on DP that used to support her a few months ago have now turned their back on her.

You know why?

Because Fox news is saying it's okay to do so... Notice how none of her usual apologists on Fox have come to her aide. She must have really pissed a lot of people off over there.

Not certain. In the short term, I believe it would not happen again. But in the midterm, say, in several years, it is possible. Then again, I think she has found her sweet spot. Being a GOP cheerleader, political insider has its benefits that political office in of itself would not have, and not just in terms of salary.

Yes it is over. She would have been an really good candidate if she was inteligent and a good speaker from the begining. But she has absolutly no clue of what is happening in the world. It is good when a candidate seem to be down to the earth like Reagan, but if you are clueless, then it doesn't look good. Secondly, Palin doesn't look down to earth, but more like a celebrity.

There are other good GOP candidates that can focus on the deficit. The GOP have regained some strength, because the Democrats don't seem to be willing to do anything to reduce the deficit other than increasing taxes.

Yes. However, with Reagan and George W. Bush, intellectuals/academics were also used to develop conservative/moderate conservative policies.

I just think that the gop pandering to that base is hurting the gop in the long run... but that's my opinion. The Tea Party built their success in part by saying it wasn't about the religious base, but lowering the debt... People tend to care more about issues that affect them, than OMG that woman is in her 40s and has 5 kids because she so profile and loves Jesus.

The economy becomes a significant issue when it is uniquely positive or negative. When economic affairs are normal and/or at least slightly positive (in comparison toward previous high/low times...not necessarily in comparison with the rest of the world, where we obviously shine), we have the luxury of defining our national character with more gusto. I once made the same mistake with believing that social conservatism would fade with time. These impulses come and go in critical mass popularity, but will always remain with us.

Failing upwards, it's the new American dream.

Well, you're more mocking than I would be. I think if she actually concentrates, she can become the next Newt. Right now, I agree, she feels like a consultant from Entertainment Tonight rather than someone in the Heritage Foundation, the American Enterprise Institute, or Cato.

You don't even know how utterly ridiculous you come off when you post. You are the HuffPosterchild, par excellance...

Newt has a brain. He misuses it, but he has one.

She thinks Africa is a country.

If Palin were to join a think tank, she would be in charge of figuring out if Mamma Grizzlies crap in the woods.

Palin will continue it inspire the dogmatic far right and the progressive left until the right gives up on her.

She thinks Africa is a country.

Further proof you believe anythign anyone on the left tells you to, without checking the facts. You're credibility here lowers with each post you make.

The Africa thing was a hoax...you were fooled (a fairly simple task it seems).

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/13/arts/television/13hoax.html?_r=3&em&oref=slogin&oref=slogin
It was among the juicier post-election recriminations: Fox News Channel quoted an unnamed McCain campaign figure as saying that Sarah Palin did not know that Africa was a continent.

Who would say such a thing? On Monday the answer popped up on a blog and popped out of the mouth of David Shuster, an MSNBC anchor. “Turns out it was Martin Eisenstadt, a McCain policy adviser, who has come forward today to identify himself as the source of the leaks,” Mr. Shuster said.

Trouble is, Martin Eisenstadt doesn’t exist. His blog does, but it’s a put-on. The think tank where he is a senior fellow — the Harding Institute for Freedom and Democracy — is just a Web site. The TV clips of him on YouTube are fakes.

And the claim of credit for the Africa anecdote is just the latest ruse by Eisenstadt, who turns out to be a very elaborate hoax that has been going on for months. MSNBC, which quickly corrected the mistake, has plenty of company in being taken in by an Eisenstadt hoax, including The New Republic and The Los Angeles Times.

Of course, I don't expect you to admit it was a hoax, even with the proof right in front of you. You'll go on and on and on... believing whatever the left tells you, without checking for yourself..... just like they want you to.

I think the right already has. Pity, it was fun when people actually took her seriously.
