Re: Most fair and unbiased news source?

I don't think any news outlet can be completely unbiased, because people are biased, and people deliver the news. I think the concept of the news media being a fourth estate is becoming a thing of the past.

Long before infotainment and opinion news, I had accepted the fact that only through sampling of multiple sources was it possible to arrive at a relatively objective idea as to events in the news. A little Fox, a little MSNBC, Jim Lehrer, BBC, see what they agree on, where they differ, filter for known bias, Voila!

Not always right, but WAY better than ANY single source.

The poll should have "aggregate" as an option.

No wonder Fox leads this DB poll by far...

In January 2010, the Democratic Party-affiliated Public Policy Polling reported that Fox News was the most trusted television news channel in the country with 49% of respondents stating they trust Fox News. Fox also scored the lowest level of distrust with only 37%, and was the only channel to score a net positive in that regard, with a +12%. CNN scored second in the poll with 39% of those polled stating that they trusted the news channel, and 41% stating distrust, a −2% net score

"Fox most trusted name in news?". Public Policy Polling. 2010-01-26. Archived from the original on 2010-10-07. WebCite query result. Retrieved 2010-09-23.

The poll should have been who are the best and worst news anchors/hosts and even commentators.

IMO Chris Wallace is the best current news host and Harry Reasoner or Huntley & Brinkley past.

Katie Couric is by far the worst at the present...

Dan Rather was right up there in the past:

Obviously the opinion shows like Hannity and O'Reilly are going to be conservative. I think they do a fair job at the news itself.

I would probably say RealClearPolitics and Drudge.
Politico leans liberal but I still enjoy reading it.

Hard to say because it depends on the country. Some news outlet that are supposedly in the middle in the US, is to the right in France. And I hardly think any news stations in France are supportive of the US at all.

However in the US, I have found CNN and Yahoo News to be pretty balanced. BBC, New York Times, and especially The Guardian and MSNBC is to the left. Fox News is to the right. The other I don't really know.

Re: Most fair and unbiased news source?

I respect news outlets that try to be unbiased. But that's not really what I'm looking for to get my news. I like news reporting that is slanted to my way of seeing things. Fox News does that exactly without ever trying to deceive. I feel they do make an effort to present the other side and they do use very smart liberals like Alan Combs and Kirsten Powers, rather than any buffoons.

AUSTAN GOOLSBEE: I think the world vests too much power, certainly in the president, probably in Washington in general for its influence on the economy, because most all of the economy has nothing to do with the government.

Re: Most fair and unbiased news source?

    Hi everyone,

I'm new here and it looks like this thread is a little old, but I have been searching out this topic today and thought I would add a link to Wikinews: Wikinews, the free news source. I think it has a good chance at being unbiased due to the nature of the wiki. It has an information page about how writers and editors should try to maintain neutrality and I think it does a pretty good job. As far as entertainment factor, though, it's about as interesting as watching C-SPAN. (That's a joke, I love C-SPAN).
