What, if anything, should the West do to help Libya?

What, if anything, should the West do to help Libya?

What would have to be done is for NATO aircraft to take out all Gadaffi's fighters and helicopters on the tarmack. There is substantial evidence that the fighters are bombing rebel-held cities until they are nearly in ruins. Not that it matters. Clearly NATO hasn't changed since the 90's, when it wrung its hands for 5 years while Serbians massacred their way through Croatia and Bosnia.

If NATO doesn't do it, the USA should either decide to provide unilateral humanitarian aid or do nothing at all.

The choice is "do nothing at all".

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization was formed to protect Europe against the threat of an expansionist communist Soviet Union. Under no circumstances should NATO again be used for trivial purposes, as it was in Serbia. The squabble in Libya threatens neither US nor any European nation. Any nation wanting to play "Referee" can put it's troops in zebra suits on it's own dime and send them in. The US should not be one of these. Deficits, remember?

THERE ARE INNOCENTS ****ING DYING!!!!!

you.... [io]protect[/i].... the innocent.

Mayor Snorkum isn't seeing this in the Constitution.

What Mayor Snorkum DOES see is this:

The Congress shall have Power To ...To declare War,

That means that before US military forces are employed absent a direct attack on the nation demanding immediate response, the Congress (not the President) must declare war. This is how our representational republic is supposed to work.

Has any Congressman introduced the appropriate legislation to the House, yet? Has the president requested the passage of any such bill? If not, the president should be impeached if he orders troops into yet another war of convenience and choice.

bingo..f ucke mhim **** the uN **** NATO, **** evryone else, wheen ethe ere arep oele dying in front of youa you DO furcking something.

There is a metaphor that is often used for Western intervention in the Balkans* but is more apropriate here.

'A man walks into a bar, he sees to people fighting and shoots both of them because 'he had to do something' We should observe the hipocratic principle here "First do no harm" Im inclinced to go for a no fly zone here, as the 'safe haven' system in Iraqi Kurdistan is the only example of humanitarian intervention that actually bloody worked.

*Of course in the case of the Balkans we started the fight

I doubt if Libia should even be considered as a "nation".
Very much like Afghanistan or Iraq.....or Vietnam....will we ever learn???....thius far, the answer is NO!
We should do things to help the people there, if they so desire.
There must be refugees, we should ask them.
