If Humans where not the only race, would you be a Human supremacist?

Would you support Human supremacy?

How did you let that happen??? I never lost a soul, and I've played it at least six times...

I didn't really know what I was supposed to do to keep my team alive. I just kind of jumped into the game. I did a lot better on my retry.

Weirdest poll i've made on this forum but i can't stop thinking about it. Basically im playing this game set in the future, where human development takes them beyond our solar system, into different nebula's and galaxies. There are many different types of intelligent life forms from different evolutionary backgrounds and planets that humans inevitably cross paths with. They mingle in our cities and we in theirs, imagine; they can talk like you, learn your language, adapt to your culture, share the same interests as you, have a collective sense on what is right or wrong. They have big cultural differences, different ways of doing or understanding things, the way people did before the days of planes, ships and globalization, before the days of integration right here on Earth.

Yet, although all these races live together, prejudices exist, historic hatred and stereotyping still alive, just like in today's society. Naturally, inter-human race supremacy ideals would shift slowly to human race supremacy in such an event. And even though this galactic society has its tensions, they collectively agree racism is wrong, should be combated and equality promoted, again, like today's world.

But in-game exists an organization called Cerberus. It promotes pro-Human agenda's, sometimes even resulting in violence against other races to ensure its dominance and genetic pool is maintained. It emphasizes on inter-human breeding, human only colonies, independent human political system, military intervention to save human lives only and promotes the importance of the human culture, history and identity over others.

In such a hypothetical world, as a citizen of the galaxy in the world 2100, would you be in favor of lifting racial prejudices of human vs alien, or would you support the Cerberus cause?

Every time i think about what my answer would be, i cant help but think "well, would i be a white supremacist against other human races?". But its different....or did people see it in a similar light back then? Me vs this foreigner who looks nothing like me, who has a different background as me? Will that be the next big step towards a discriminant free society in the distant future? All hypothetically speaking, of course.

Yes, **** those crazy looking, large eye, grey skin aliens! I'm from Buenos Aires and I say kill them all!

If their natural or selected way of life presents no harm to humans and vise versa, I would probably advocate for a harmonious relationship. However, if this is a race of vampires (or they really like the way humans taste), then no way, I want to live.

There might not even be a point to being a human supremacist, since superiority complexes could be uniquely human and no one else would care.

If they do care, it could go one of two ways:
1) The other lifeforms are indifferent or even peaceful, so they let us think what we want.
2) They are hostile and supremacy has to be proven with who has the most power. Humans would lose.

Paragon all the way though ME 1 and 2.
Everyone lived.
We need the combine might of the whole Galaxy to win.
Also it's all about Tali.=)

That would depend upon how the aliens voted. If they supported Obama then death to the alien scum. If they supported more conservative candidates then I would be a big time supporter of NAAA (the National Association for the Advancement of Aliens).

I feel like they wouldn't give a f*ck about human politics.

At the end of Mass Effect 2, I told the Illusive Man to screw off, so there's my answer ;)

Ditto, but it was because I did not trust him, nor did I like his manipulative ways. I feel his agenda is not driven by what is the best of humanity, but is instead driven by more selfish motives - or he is something other than human, those fake looking eyes just did not sit well for me, and it seemed a cue that things may not quite be what they seem to be..

All human council, but I also told the illusive man to piss off.

I also am quite renegade - I will do what I feel needs to be done to get the desired end result, and in ME2 that was using Cerberus and discarding them when I was through.
ME1 paragon: 139, renegade: 454
ME2 paragon: 522, renegade: 1250

Regarding the question posed in the OP, I would be loyal to my own (humans), but would also accept that we had limitations and concede that alien races would almost certainly have different strengths and weaknesses than us. A blanket superior Vs. inferior categorization would be inadequate, unless we are discussing specifics.

I'm a vegan.

I'm not sure if that is wise. I mean, the Illusive Man would probably use the tech acquired at the Collector Base to turn innocent bystanders into husks or something, but those are the kind of measures you need to get the 'optimal' Renegade play through.

They probably would and we theres. Infact, we wouldn't just care, we would probably be inclined to be concerned.

I believe in the power of human ingenuity....we also have a great knack for blowing stuff up. Plus, they might not even be as advanced as us or our alien allies would probably prop us up with some sweet nanotech. Unless of course they developed invisibility suits, teleports, time machines and massive laser guns that can destroy a planet at the press of a button. More reason to colonize exoplanets!

As a person who has only played ME 2 and not 1, i have thus far got the impression that Cerberus is a more hands on and practicle organization than the bureaucratic Alliance. I have also felt so far (haven't finished the game) that Cerberus has done all of the heavy lifting, all of the dirty work and killing to get to the bottom of the problem. The Illusive man has invested considerable money into Shepherds mission, reviving Shepherd and researching ways to get through the Omega 4 Relay alive....more than the Alliance bothered to do. The alliance has done zilch so far from what i have gathered. They remind me more and more of the UN come to think of it.

If anybody has the interests of humankind at heart, its Cerberus, and the alliance has to seem like it is appeasing all Citadel races equally. Once humankind's existence is no longer threatened, i dont intend on sticking around with them though.

you are not sure what is wise? I did not give the illusive man what he wanted, and I blew up the base. As I said I did not trust the illusive man, and used him inasmuch as he was a means to an end, but I discarded him after. I did what I felt had to be done. Although I am for the most part a renegade, I am also renegade enough to not be a slave to the path, and am not going for the "optimal" play through. If it is an issue and I like ME3 enough it is a simple matter of going back and replaying the end scene and going from there anyhow (plus there is a save editor if needs be -where do you think I got the specific values for my paragon/renegade scores - although I will likely not use it).

It's possible that the "best" ending for the Mass Effect trilogy involves a mixture of Paragon and Renegade choices, but given the polarity of the alignment and the 'canon' set up in Mass Effect 2 (the default Shepard), 'optimal' endings probably require heavy Paragon or heavy Renegade.

For example, letting the Council die in ME1 and forming a human council vastly weakens both the military strength and the loyalty of alien species toward humanity, but keeps humanity strong by preserving their fleet and making them the rulers in a galactic hegemony.

Getting rid of the Collector technology undermines humanity's ability to maintain that hegemony.

In essence, the Paragon values life and mercy, for everybody. The Renegade values power and independence, in particular for himself and his species. Deciding not to keep the Collector Base for humanity lessens humanity's power and independence, which you established in ME1 by letting the Council die.

Yeah, their government most likely would. If I was an alien species I'd be cautious as f*ck about humans. But I doubt many of our or their citizens would. I mean come on, most people have no idea what's happening on their own planet, let alone another.

I think its just going to shift from focusing on problems on our Earth, to focusing on problems on our Earth and other planets.

By the way, have you noticed how sci-fi concepts that take us beyond the Galaxy and into scenarios where alien races mix with one another in a high tech world assume how Utopia is achieved on Earth? Its interesting.

Probably depends on the other race(s).

Do yourself a favor and play ME 1... immediately!! The story provided by the original is invaluable to understanding the difficult choices made in ME2... and ME1 has beyond a doubt the finest, most exhilarating ending I've ever played in a video game. Seriously, game on. Go for it, and thank me when you're through. :)

I second this!

And then have fun playing ME2 all over again, because it is a much richer experience when you import your ME1 Shepard.

We're not the only race, even on Earth. Bottlenose dolphins, to cite just one example, are apparently fully sentient and have complex language capabilities - the only reason they lack technology is probably that they have limited anatomical ability to manipulate objects. Apes are also sentient, although their ability to communicate is more limited. There are more abstract arguments that organisms such as bees, ants, and cephalopods are intelligent, although this roams into more obscure domains of thinking that depend heavily on how flexible one's definitions are. I think they all have rights, but our ability to observe those rights is hampered by our own limitations as a species derived from evolutionary pressures. Nevertheless, in practice I tend toward Buddhist philosophy of universal benevolence toward life: I am a vegetarian, and will not kill bugs unless they are dangerous or invade in large numbers that might be a health hazard.

I find it unlikely we will ever run into alien intelligence. Not for lack of existence, mind you - I am virtually positive the universe is teeming with it, just as an extrapolation of the fact that the Earth is already swarming with it and it's only existed here for a few dozen millennia. But the timescales of evolution are so vast that, statistically speaking, species on the same technological level would be too far apart in space to have meaningful contact. If we ever did run into ETs, their civilization would be so old and large in scale that its actions would either look like natural phenomena or occur in regions so dense with activity we couldn't access them or discern what's going on - e.g., the interiors of stars, the plasma rings around black holes, etc. Nor would we run into archaeological relics, because space is simply too large and the timescales of relics that we could recognize would be relatively small.

And this mutual ignorance is probably a good thing: With few exceptions, the likelihood of contact with a civilization that found us comprehensible would be the destruction or subordination of one or the other. Even if both approached the relationship with benevolence, both are products of evolution and subject to behaviors that ultimately serve themselves at the expense of others.

Freakin' awesome post!

I don't even believe in human supremacy in a lot of ways. Animals are so much more innocent then we are. And we are, in general, just damn evil.

why's shepard gotta be a chick sheesh. Men can be saviors of humanity as well.

Ha nice poster. I was being facetious, wondering why a dude would choose a female Shepard but I guess it's not as uncommon as I probably think it is, cuz she's not even all that hot. No joke though, I had a moron friend who chose to be a FemShep because he thought female characters are inherently more powerful in RPGs. That or it was a piss-poor excuse for wanting tits.
