........there wouldnt be any bite in the union bark......and no reason for the union.

Even when the Union signs No-Strike contracts......there is a blue flu at the Police Department.......or at the Wisconsin Public schools.

Private sector, any non-govt. supported unions are completely ok.

When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic.

I am for doing good to the poor, but...I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. I observed...that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer.

They should have other things to compensate for their agreeing not to go on strike.

I voted yes. Unions force teachers, firemen, police, and so on to pay for things they may not personally believe or support. They can strike whenever and still get paid. We as taxpayers pay their salaries, they do as they please and the kids in WI have apparently suffered. The study of 8th graders show that. Most cant even read on their own level...My 2nd grader is reading at a 6th grade level...what are the teachers doing to earn their pay exactly?

Well isnt a bloated salary, gold plated health care, diamond inlayed pensions enough compensation?

I don't really think salaries are bloated. NYC firefighters start at 40k, hardly a ton for the hours and stress they get put under.
There have to be some protections put into place once the right to strike is taken away, their only real power. Otherwise, what's stopping them from cutting wages, healthcare, pensions, etc.? If they're not allowed to strike, all they can do is watch.

Is the $100,000/yr..... 5 years later.....at all bloated? What about the Free Lifelong Health Care? A Free pension after 20 years?

    Firefighter Benefits and Salary

By protections you mean an never ending bribe?

For the life firefighters live? yeah, I'd say its fair.

by protections I mean something in place of striking.

I could leave McKinsey, I suppose, if they tried to cut my wages. Most of my income doesn't come from wages, though, but bonuses and that depends on how much money I and my team brings in.

    How about that......

.....at what salary would it be "too much"?

by protections I mean something in place of striking.
The strike is the only union weapon........and your solution is to keep bribing the union to keep them from using it.

It is hilarious how the right say they are the champions of peoples right, freedom of speech and basically the defenders of "you can do anything you want", but when it comes to unions they are willing to take all those principles and throw them out the window. Hypocrites.

As for the "union" is destroying the country crowd... it aint the Unions that cause the financial melt down.. that was the banking and financial industry... so when are you going to go after them?
