Should raises for Congress be tied to raises for Government employees

As you may know, government employee's recently have their annual Cost of Living raise stopped by Congress. Additionally any increases to the various steps was suspeneded as well. There is now talk of disallowing any in-step increases or promotions for a certain amount of time.

Yet, despite Congress voting in favor of some or all of these measures, they have deemed it appropriate to give themselves raises.

So this would be my question...if Congress votes to freeze pay of federal workers in some fashion should it make congress themselves inelligable for raises of any kind for that fiscal year as well?

Yes it does. Congress should actually vote to decrease there pay.

The people should right now decide how much congressmen/women are paid. Then that pay should be linked to the government controlled inflation index (CPI) and it should never be 'voted' on again. Inflation has been, according to the government, non-existent over the past two years... so why do they need a raise? It shouldn't be up to them.

I agree 100%. At minimum they should all have a pay freeze.

Also, do you have a link to info showing they did this? Would like to share with some people, but couldn't find anything.

Even better, it should be indexed to average wage and ginii calculations (and federal employees excluded, it should be all private sector). As the population prospers, then congress does.

There should be an independent board to approve or disapprove a pay raise dependent on their overall performance. Then they'd never get a pay raise!

One that thing floored me is the number of congress critters that don't show up for a vote or show up AFTER the allotted time to vote is up, but still get to place their vote. I saw this in the last major important vote. These self grandized cretins don't even have to show up to work on time!

Of course. Politicians are government employees themselves.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"
