The media is focusing on her singing the words incorrectly, but did you enjoy the way she sang?

Most of the people I watched the Super Bowl with didn't like the way she sang, and we didn't catch the word mix up right away.

I think she sang the anthem like it was a Broadway show or something, and it seemed like she was trying to really be over the top.

That's her style, and it's always been awful. The added trills and squeaks do nothing for any melody that accidentally wanders in.

No. Whitney Houston started the downfall of the National Anthem, and Aguilera is merely one more twig in that tree of suck.

Its the freakin National Anthem, not the OMIGOSH aint I awesome anthem. I dont mind the occasional personal spin on it...but 'brave' only has one syllable...not 27 for cryin out loud.

That being said...I didnt think it was horrible. She appeared to get lost in her trills and runs so she forget the lyrics...but I daresay if I had to sing that song, unaccompanied, in front of 90,000 people live and 30-40 million TV sets...Id probably get lost after "Oh...Oh..ummmm...oh snap...whats the next word..."

And for the record...Im all for ending the half time showss...go back to a frekin marching band or two. The Phantom Regiment or some such professional marching band. Great show and...look ma...no head boxes or walking condoms...

"Brave" is only one portion of the problem. The problem is that vocal masturbation occurs within every line in that song.

That's just about how I feel when I see someone go on stage to sing the anthem. ;)

I get that. Still...Id almost pay money to see how many twists in every single word Reba McEntire could put into the song...

I can't say that I enjoy her singing, under any circumstance. Also, she was unprofessional. If you are going to perform, at least memorize the song.

actually, i think it may have been Jimi

and later Marvin Gaye

more recently, Anthony Hamilton sparked a controversy at a nascar event when the bubbas and bubbettes did not appreciate his take on the star spangled banner (can't locate the video)
here's one the local bubbas approve of:
unlike martina, christina did her career no favors by oversinging
she was still better than roseanne ... not by a lot
actually, it would appear she adopted maya rudolph's style:

Call me crazy, but I like Hendrix version of the anthem.

I like Christina Aguilera's voice.

I like it too, and I made a point to watch her sing the anthem... but I didn't really like how she did the anthem.

I didn't even notice the lyrics flub. I did notice that a couple of the football players on the sidelines were moved to tears. If it was that good for them, it was plenty good for me.

That woman can sing!

I hope the critics can out do her.

Arrangement was fine but I think you should know the words before volunteering to sing an inportant song to 111 million people.

I think she like most people KNOW the words...its a bit different when you are in the spotlight.

Ever watch Jeopardy or "Are you Smarter than a 5th Grader"? OF COURSE we know the answers...when there is no pressure on us. the brain works a little differently when we are under pressure.

It is a hard song to sing but she has been singing it since she was younger so she coulda done a better job. She got nervous. It happens. I love her voice and she can reach ranges that most folks cannot.

the only decent halftime show ever was Janet flashing boob.

Maybe she did get nervous... never really thought of that. I guess it's possible, but you know she has sang to millions of people before... but then, it was the Super Bowl... IDK. Is the Super Bowl intimidating to mega stars??

I can't believe people are still complaining about the Super Bowl national anthem. If it isn't complaining about that it is complaining about the commercials.... oh my.

One of my favorite national anthems at a sporting event was where the singer forgot the words. The great part was when Portland coach Maurice Cheeks came forth to help out the young singer.

Eh, you have to admit the last two The Peas and The Who were a step up considering past Super Bowl half time shows. Granted I never watch the half time show.
