Oh god, please say yes.

I say yes, If women want to sell there bodies let them, it shouldn't be the governments job to tell them no.

Yes, but it should be regulated and restricted to licensed brothels, for health and safety reasons.

Absolutely not.

Prostitution is a horrible practice that erodes the moral fiber of any nation. It should absolutely remain illegal.

People already **** for money legally so why not just recognize it as a normal profession?

Making it illegal just assures that women will be victimized; it is better to regulate it, establish standards and protections.

Never! I think that whores should stay relegated to back allies and crack dens where we can pretend they don‘t exist, instead of in regulated brothels where they’re plainly visible. Consigning thousands of women to a death spiral of drug addiction with small hope of reprieve is a small price to pay, compared to having my conservative sensibilities offended.

You're right, better to make everything legal. That way there won't be any crime because nothing will be against the law.

The real question is whether or not it is better for society to have it legal, or not legal.

And for prostitution, it is better to have it legal.

You have very strange ideas about what's good for society. You said the same thing about abortion, and, I bet you feel the same way about legalizing drugs. Am I right?

The existence of prostitution assures that women-- and men, and children-- will be victimized. Society's response should be to ensure that there is as little prostitution as possible.

Some drugs yes, you have to look at reality, and in the real world, drug use, abortion, and prostitution are never going to stop. It is best to have them legalized so that the government can stop criminals from running these industries. Lets look at prostitution, now women are forced to walk the streets in dangerous neighborhoods, work for pimps that don't give a crap about them, and take their money, and they are at a high risk for STI's, and Aids. If we legalize it these women will be able to work at a legal brothel where they are safe, and will be able to force their client to have safe sex with them, and their "pimps" will have to treat them like humans under the law, and pay them a fair wage.

Except most women don't meet the standards of those legal brothels, and would still be forced into a dangerous and dehumanizing profession.

I'm pretty sure they would be able to find work. It's just like any business, not everything is going to be top notch, but that doesn't stop other business's from putting out a lesser product at a cheaper price. The choice between working in a legal brothel vs out on the street really isn't a choice at all.

Once again, the "people will do it any way" justification is no justification at all. People will commit all crimes regardless of their legality, so, by your logic, everything should be legal.

No, not at all. I'm saying people are going to do it anyway, and it will be better for society if it is legal. Now if murder were legal, it would be worse for society. Get it now?

It's not so much that they're commiting crime, it's that the negative societal effects of prostitution (spread of STD's and HIV) can be controlled and minimised by the legalisation and regulation of it, and the same argument can be applied to marijuana, though not to more harmful drugs. (but that's for a seperate thread).

Absolutely, it should be. Regulate and restrict it, as others have said, but it should still be legal.

There is a reason that it is referred to as the oldest profession. Nothing will make prostitution go away.

And it is not right to tell anyone that they can't profit from having sex with others when they can give it away for free with the same exact chances of spreading disease. Not only that, but porn stars are paid to have sex on camera, so I don't see why other women and men shouldn't be able to just be paid to have sex.

Yeah, I don't get how pornography is legal, but not prostitution.

No, not when you use abortion, drugs and prostitution as examples of what's better for society.

I'm not saying those things are good for society, I'm saying the effects of having them illegal are bad for society, and that we can eliminate those bad things from society by making them legal. Get it now?

The governments job is not to enforce morality, but only crime. If that was the case little college sluts who go around banging 20 different guys before their freshman year is up would be in jail. The smart girls at least get money for acting like sluts. Prostitution shouldn't be a crime. Nor any other sexual act between two consenting adults. Its God's duty to judge sins, not Uncle Sams.
