Re: Have you changed any of your positions after posting here?

Not since posting here, but over the years of posting in forums, I've gone from being economically liberal to being economically conservative, and from being a supporter of Bush to believing that the guy was an utter moron. I believe that this forum drastically impacted my view of bush, particularly on the torture issue.

I was convinced that DUI laws should be abolished.

I have changed my opinion on gay marriage, healthcare, taxes, and a couple other things.

This forum has convinced me that the American people are only interested in homosexuality, abortion and Sarah Palin. Those are the primary subjects of discussion every day.

Sadly, that's about spot on. I think there are many more things to worry about, like the continuing war, our debt, the failing economy, etc. But apparently we like beating dead horses. Surprised PETA ain't complained yet.

Re: Have you changed any of your positions after posting here?

Generally I went politically from centrist liberal lean (as a result of opposition to Bush) to centrist libertarian lean. I spent a lot of time testing out liberal arguments and they were a lot weaker then the libertarian arguments, and in some cases, conservative arguments. Libertarianism also meshed well with the philosophy of "reason", that was probably a factor as well.

Philosophically (not the political stuff), I haven't found anything better than what I came in with, but it's certainly gotten a little more refined since DP.

Interesting to see how many of us were impacted in some way by Bush.

No, I haven't. In fact, posting here at DP has only reinforced and strengthened my center-right political convictions and my stance on various issues.

Re: Have you changed any of your positions after posting here?

I had to put other because there are several levels to my positions.

The most frequently changing level, and the lowest, is people. People are imperfect, so I will support them so long as they maintain the correct political ideals. Should they talk a big game and not deliver, they get pushed aside.

The second level includes bills, laws and policies. I will support a bill, law or policy so long as it achieves the desired goals. Should the bill, law or policy have a negative, unforeseen impact I will reconsider my support.

The top level is my over all philosophy, and this rarely changes. My over all philosophy stems primarily from the idea that the individual holds his/her rights and the government's job is to not intrude upon those rights.
You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

I have, I have noticed that communism, or any other economic system or any form of government can't be implemented. It has to phased in.
