I bought a Nintendo Wii last week (christmas sale). I am enjoying it, even though I haven't gotten any new games in yet (I plan to buy a nice rpg game next month). But it did make me think and be curious. What is your favorite modern game console?

We've got them all, the Wii, the Xbox 360 and the PS3 and of those, I like the Wii best, it's just the most fun system to play. I can't say I care for the PS3 much at all and while the 360 has some great games, I find myself going back to the Wii more often than not, if I'm going to sit down and play something. Plus the fact, both Microsoft and Sony are playing catch-up with Nintendo, trying to do the things that the Wii has done since release, that they're only now doing with the Kinect, etc.

Nintendo won this round. We'll see about the next one.

PS3

It has the games of the XBox but also has a Blue Ray DVD, and many other functions that make it much more then a game system

I'm pretty disillusioned with console gaming as my PS3 broke twice, the second time after it cost $150 to repair, and is sitting in pieces on a table in our storage room after we tried a manual repair. Computers are better if you have the time and money to build one for gaming, and pretty much all the games I'm looking forward to in 2011 (half of them are Bioware games - Dragon Age 2, Old Republic, and Mass Effect III) are probably going to be superior on PC (possible exception is Space Marine).

Having perused them all at one point or another, I would pick the Xbox 360. I like its exclusives more, Gears of Wars and such.

Still have the Wii for the upcoming Zelda though.

In all honesty, I never enjoyed gaming more than when I did it on my Super Nintendo Entertainment System.

Oldie, but a goodie.

Xbox 360 only because it's online gaming is light-years ahead of the PS3's online gaming, mainly because you pay for xbox live.

The PS3 is a home entertainment system more than a game system, IMO.

Nothing beats the N64, but as for current gen stuff, I'll go with PS3. I've been a Nintendo fan boy my entire gaming life, and while I still still love my Wii, it just has not delivered as much this generation as the Sony. I feel that Nintendo has been somewhat slow in embracing its original fanbase this generation, those of us who stuck with the Big N even during the Gamecube days when it was roundly criticized when compared to the PS2 and Xbox. Fortunately, the Wii has improved. Zelda, Brawl, and Mario Galaxy are some of my favorite games, but the system is still plagued by poor third party support. While Microsoft and Sony get titles like Bioshock and Fallout 3, the Wii gets dumbed downed versions of Call of Duty. While much has been made of the motion controls, the system is still, in many ways, a step back from even the game cube technically. As a Nintendo supporter, I know that technology is not nearly as important as the vision behind the games, but a lot of times, especially this generation, the Wii probably cannot go where other systems go. I doubt that the Wii would even be able to play a game the size of Fallout very well. The Wii will always have a place in my gaming, and Nintendo, by far, remains my favorite video game company, but as I get older, I'd like something a little bit more developed than friend codes.

As for the other system, I like gaming on my PC, but I don't want to spend too much money on a good gaming computer. As for Xbox 360 and PS3, I just like the controller and free internet better. I also prefer Uncharted and LittleBigPlanet to Halo and Gears of War.

PC Cannot be beat for graphics, sound and control. Even an X-Box is just a low grade PC.[/Thread]

The good 'oll PC.

As far as handhelds go, the PSP smashes the competition. Its amazing what they can fit on that tiny screen.

Xbox 360 no doubt. Great online, great controller, great interface, great games. I love my PS3, and Wii(even though it broke, I would really like to play Epic Mickey :() But if I had to choose one it would be my xbox.

My PC

I play one game - and one game only. UT2004. I map and mod - I live it. It runs on my computer at the worst of times.

I have the whole variety of game-consoles and always found the game selections to be crappy and slim, unentertaining - boring. An expensive waste of money and time. Some games I do like are finicky. Graphics are ****tacular compared to PC - overall - game consoles suck.

PC, by a pretty large margin. I play a ton of PC games.

The Wii gets used quite a bit when people are over (lots of good party games on it).

The PS3 gets used far more often for music and movies than games, although lately I've really gotten hooked on the God of War series.

For portable gaming I've got a DS, but I honestly don't play it all that often.

It depends on your needs, and how you order your entertainment system. The PS3 provides a good gaming experience while also providing high-definition video, audio, and Netflix capability + Internet browsing (if you want to go to the trouble to get a decent OS). That makes it the single best item on the list in terms of bang for your buck. The Xbox 360 is the fan favorite for social gaming; it is much easier to organize a gaming party around Xbox 360s than PCs or PS3s.

I (grudgingly) admit that I did get a lot of use out of my PS3 during the two or so years it worked.

It depends on how you order your entertainment system, but generally you can't get as good graphics on a console as on a computer.

Depends on what kind of rig you have and what kind of console you're comparing it to though. PS3 has some pretty impressive graphics. Definitely on par with most mid-range PCs. A high-end gaming PC will generally beat out any console though.

It's not a uniform thing. Certain games from certain developers on certain builds.

If so, it doesn't seem worth the money to build a high end gaming PC, that will cost over a grand, when for that money I could have all 3 consoles, and I doubt the difference is that amazing.

No, but since a gaming computer functions as a regular computer (and anything else you want to build it into), it might be more cost-effective to combine the different technologies into one PC. Again, relative to your tastes and needs.

Computers also have a virtual monopoly on real-time strategy games, and other more or less obscure genres.

True, it all comes down to personal preference, but I think it's more cost effective for gaming to play on consoles. Plus I like the controller better than a mouse, and keyboard.
Though, I might get a cheap PC to play The Old Republic some time. That game looks really fun.

You can buy controllers for PCs, though I'm not sure if its worth the trouble or if they work for every game.

PS3 + my PC. Doesn't really count as a console tho

My husband has broad horizons - he's actually the one who buys all the consoles, he collects everything. There are some games he's never open.

I have my one and only game. Because i can program in it I can make it as different as I want with just a little time. I've played a lot of other games, though - I shouldn't cut short on variety props. The Myst type adventures and various war games (like Medal of Honor and Call of Duty) were great on PS3 - my Xbox is new so I don't have many, yet - the kids mostly play that.

As far as computer games go, though - UT2K is my passion in large part because I've never had a single problem with it - little pop-bag games like Zenerchi and Zuma have serious issues, but because of UT2K's excellent programming and overall design - it runs so smooth. I just can't shake a stick at the perfect game :)

But maybe I should confess that I think a console is only as good as the TV you have it on - if your TV is crappy and old - your games will all look exactly that.

Everything you have on a console can be in a low cost PC. Mine for example....

DVD Bruner and Blue Ray Player
HD 23" Moniter
7.1 Surround sound
Keyboard, mouse and game controler.

I can also do Netflix in HD and surround and because I have a high end video card/cards you can really tell the difference from consoles. On games like Oblivion and Mass Effect 2 you can turn on very high end settings that a console just can't do. I am totally into the eye candy, lol.

Consoles are fun and cost effective for certain. And at times they have better games that don't come to PC's. Overall I still think the PC is a better all around platform while consoles are better for just gaming.

Edit: PSP is just amazing for graphics etc. I think it is the best hand held.
