Don posted some numbers once about the increase doctors where asking for in payments for Medicaid/Medicare and it was literally scary. The costs are growing far far faster than the economy is growing, or the rate of inflation by a factor of 2 to 3. I knew we needed reform(my brother was diagnosed with cancer in his 20's, and while it is in remission, he still has a small tumor in his gut and will have a pre-existing condition all his life), but never knew how badly we needed it till then.

I do not think that is the case with the health care bill.

What mess are we in. I recall during the debate that, like, 80% of Americans were happy with their health care

The free market would allow corporations to do what they wanted to. Every health care corporation would join together (if we're assuming we have no anti-trust laws, as in a free market), and premiums along with everything else would skyrocket. If you honestly suggest allowing the free market to take over health care completely, you have no idea what you're talking about.
This is not what would happen at all. Without all the regulation, companies would be more free to offer different packages that people could get according to what they need. Also, insurance companies would compete against each other. That would drive down premiums.

It is the case if it's actually driven premiums up for everybody and/or makes doctors less accessible.

I've also heard that 20% of Americans or something like that believe Obama is a Muslim. My point in that is that the American people are pretty freaking stupid, and more then that, the inherent economic inefficiencies in the healthcare industry cost us exorbitant funds.

Why would they compete when they can form a massive corporation? That's just better business for them, and they would offer tons of different packages with all the same caveats: once you actually get sick and start becoming a liability, they're going to cut you loose. Maybe if corporations inherently behaved ethically we could expect what you predict, but that's obviously not the case. All they would go for is profit, and without government regulation, they'd get it.

We've had a year and a half of health care reform debate. This political theater will achieve nothing. I think there are other things pressing for Congressional action; immigration reform and tax reform particularly. Republicans need to move on.

Dems should have "moved on" when it was made clear the people didn't want this.

I don't think Americans are stupid but I agree we do stupid things on occasion (like electing Obama). Once the people are engaged and interested, we're actually quite smart IMO. Interesting you speak of "economic inefficiencies" as if there aren't inefficiencies in the government.

If what you say is true, why wouldn't it be the case for all corporations in existence now?

Ignoring the partisan crap, I disagree, especially since our education system is a nightmare, setting future generations up for failure. Education has become more and more of a lost cause for a few decades now, and that reflects on our personal choices. In this case, the inefficiencies of government are not as much as the inefficiencies of the free market. That doesn't happen often, I admit, but it is the case in this situation.

A number of anti-trust laws, and legislation prevent that. Not to mention most governments around the world realize that would be negative for consumers. Before government intervention, corporations did do what I said. Its clear when you look at the late 1800's.

With 50million Americans without insurance im not sure your math would add up. Now the polls are about even for keeping it as is. Polls are a poor way to dictate policy.
