Post Public School Funding -- User Fees

Since it is the responsibility of parents to take care of their own children, would you agree that user fees (so much per child) should be used INSTEAD of the usual property, income and sales taxes?

    If so, what percentage?

I don't quite understand, so if I have a child, I should pay a tax on that child? Instead of income tax? How do you think I support the child? Through my income... and where would I pay those taxes from? Probably my income. Just a thought.

    User Fees
You would pay for the use of the public school, but only if you actually used it. If your child attends the public school, you pay a fee of so much (per month or semester) during the time your child goes there. It would be the same kind of fee you pay to use a private school.

The bottom line: If you download a tricycle motor, you are responsible for its care. You do not have a right to use other people's money to take care of your children.

Well then public school would just be private school. Public school should be paid for by taxes.

And what if you can't afford to send your child to school?

Do you realise the overall negative impact lack of schooling can have a on a society? It makes you less competitive in the global market, and would ultimately bring down the nation.

Yep, we should make education more accessible, not less accessible. The more educated our society is, the better we will be. Education should be funded by taxes because it is in everyone's best interest that our society is one of the best educated in the world. (Though, we do need education reform as well)

If you cannot support children, don't have them.

If you have suffered a financial disaster beyond your control, churches and charities are the way to go, NOT forcing other people to do it.

For your information, private schooling is far superior to the government-run kind. In addition, since it is far more efficient, it costs a lot less. Home schooling is also much better and lower in cost than the govt kind.

It is in everyone's best interest to divest government meddling with education. It not only wastes our money; it also dumbs down our children. Is that what you want for YOUR children???????

    Got it.

    You don't have money.

    You don't deserve education.

    Perfect.

Re: Public School Funding -- User Fees

I'm pretty sure everyone can agree that we need education reform, but this is not the way to go. It will only make education available to those who can afford it, and will make our society go down faster than anything other than an atom bomb going off. And you can't say, we'll if you can't afford to send them to school, don't have children. Because that is never going to happen, and is not realistic. Education is a necessity for any society to be successful, and the access to education is one of the top factors in determining the success of a society. It is in the public interest for us to have the best education, and give it to every child, and the only way to do that is through public means.
