Sanctions 9 out of 10 times end up hurting the civilian population rather than the despots.
This thread is ridiculous. Why should Christians have preferential treatment? What about Jews, Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus, etc.... Are they not the same human?
So you oppose sanctions and you oppose military action. What would be your solution, unconditional surrender (and I mean by the US?)Nope.
Sanctions are responsible for mass death of populations. If you want to do something about "Christians being persecuted", then there are ways to do so without needlessly killing hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians.
I presume that you'll be putting sanctions on Israel, a receiver of a RIDICULOUS amount of military aid, since they persecute the Palestinians, no?
Sigh, I hate this mentality in the US government.
Should Western Countries make sanctions against countries where Christians, today's mostly persecuted minority, are persecuted or not, please vote.
Persecution of Christians is actually protected free speech. I guess that's one way to look at it.No.
Won't lead anywhere good - and most certainly violates our American-side of our 1st Amendment.

You're asking me why Europe doesn't act with more resolve? It's Europe. As an aside, I am not comfortable with the US submitting to any "international board of people". Other countries don't always have our best interests at heart. We're better off looking out for our own interests. If something violates another persons rights then it is *not* protected anymore.
But an international problems should be dealt with via an international board of people and regulation - discussion and decisions.
Gee - what's that called? Hmm *thinking*
We're stepping on toes when we assume on our own behalf that we are the only ones who have an opinion and who should act upon it. Europe is *right there* Why aren't they entertaining flex and might?

Fine by me. Just don't ask us for stuff then.Other countries (not America) might even think the same thing!

I do not think it should matter what the religion is of those who are being persecuted.
