But when you're home, they will be sure to wake you from even the deepest of sleeps if someone walks on the sidewalk.
Beautiful dog. My family had Dobermans growing up. Awesome dogs.

I'll trade you my cat of 20+ years. She has in the last year gotten into the habit of coming into my bedroom at 4am (just after or before my alarm goes off, and meowing at the top of her lungs. She doesn't quit until I get up and feed her. The bad thing is she doesn't get the concept of weekends!

Also in the last year she has had bladder trouble - I am assuming, as evidenced by her adopted habit of relieving herself in my shower if I don;t respond to her meowing fast enough to let her out. Needless to say she has not returned to a litter box.

At least she does it in the shower.

Wow, she's an old cat! My cat doesn't understand weekends either. I just let him out and stumble back to bed.

You might try putting a litter box somewhere for those emergencies. She probably won't use it much and will still prefer to go outside.

My mistake - we HAVE returned her to a litter box. And she uses the hell out of it - I think she is part horse based on the volume of urine - the litter clumps are softball size on a good day and nearing bowling ball size on a bad day

I'd prefer she act like Jim Carrey's dog in Bruce Almighty.

Ugh, not having to scoop litter is another plus for dogs.

Or, how about the cat in Meet The Fockers.

I don't like the term ‘better.’ I wish the poll question was “Which is preferred?” I love cats, Seal Point Siamese cats specifically. Dogs, large or small, require a lot more care.

I was cleaning out my subscriptions and I ran across this. I thought I'd bump this thread and see if any of the new guys want to weigh in on this weighty issue. Besides, cats are winning and we can't leave it at that.
