    Not true.

Jewish is also an ethnicity whether or not said Jewish people are practicing Judaism.

No it isn't. Like any word if said with malice or contempt it becomes offensive. But in and of itself? Of course not.

Except, of course, that it HAD ended over a year and a half ago before a brand new poster with some obvious issues revived it.

    Absolutely not....

My wife is Jewish and she's not bothered by it

    Is the Term "Jew" Offensive?

When used as a noun, no. When used as an adjective, almost always.

Nah, some people are just too thin skinned.

    It's no big deal

Re: Is the Term "Jew" Offensive?

Old thread is old, but I'll give my 2 cents anyway.

Along time ago, I said "Jew" as I would "Muslim" or "Christian" or "Arab" or any other descriptor and then my mother told me to never say it again which I found odd since I had never heard of it being derogatory. Because of that, I usually stick with "Jewish person" to be safe, but sometimes I say "Jew" anyway because I haven't come across anyone other than my mother who thinks it's offensive. So the answer is : I have no idea.

It just depends on how it's used. You can say "Joe Lieberman is a Jew," and that's not offensive even though it is an adjective. I think it's wrong when used as a verb (" I jew-ed down the price")

In the latter, then, the problem is not so much the word "Jew", but the application of a stereotype. It's just like saying, "he acts black" or something similarly stupid. Calling someone "black" isn't problematic, but when you treat "black" or "Jew" as anything but a descriptor of ethnicity, race or religion - the use of the word becomes problematic.

You did not use it as an adjective but as a noun.
