America doesn't need leaders with dual loyalties, potentially or actually.

Of course not. Why would a Frenchman who has decided to leave France and come to the United States to get involved in the government have any dual loyalties? If the bloke's left his former country to go to another, willingly, that's a pretty stunning show of patriotism for his new country.

Adoptive patriots are often the strongest patriots, mate.

Yes, I see no problem with it.

Foreigners can never be completely trusted. Lots and lots and lots of naturalized Americans are more than happy to subordinate American interests to the interests of their real homelands. For example:

HELL NO

Anyone found to have been born in another Country who either runs or tries to run should be given 20 years and then be deported.

Why let abject fear of the unknown get in the way? It's a very fundamentally stupid thing to do.

I'm sorry but there is nothing "fundamentally stupid" about fearing the unknown. Certainly it is problematic to let such a fear dominate one's life, or to let the fear lead one to irrational conclusions, however fear of the unknown in itself is quite wise.

Poland once had a system that allowed foreigners to become monarchs. It didn't work out too well for the Poles.

Personally, I don't think foreign born citizens should be allowed to run for president. However if they were ever able to run for that office I wouldn't really care. I'm indifferent towards it I guess.

I think the idea that, if foreign-born individuals were allowed to run for President, a "mole" could become President is more than a little crazy. The time that would have to go into such a scheme, and the probabilities involved, are just completely off the charts. Plus, I'm not even sure how much a mole president could really get away with.

That said, I don't have a problem with the ban.

At the same time though a naturally born citizen could also be a mole. We have home grown terrorists and those who hate our country within our own populace as native citizens.

I voted yes but I would like some rules applied to it.

I actually never thought about it before just now when I read the question. Originally I was like HELL NO but then once I thought about it I cant really come up with any good logical reason for a blanket no.

Our government system is set up with the president at top but there is checks and balances to keep him in check and secondly if he makes president that means WE elected him! So I definitely think the answer is yes.

I would like a time limit on it though and some rules. Of course you would have to become a citizen and then be a citizen and live here for a certain amount of years. 10+

Since when was wanting to, and trying to run for President so bad when you were born in another country [saying nothing about when [relative to your brth] you came here or how long you were here] to justify THIS kind of reaction?

Say you were born in a foreign country and brought here at an extremely young age for example, why then should you be disallowed from attempting presidency?

And last I checked, people who came here legally and went through the process are CITIZENS, just not naturalized citizens, you can't DEPORT citizens for something like trying to run for presidency when the only thing that could stop their eligibility is that they weren't BORN here.

I see no reason to lift the prohibition and plenty of reason to keep it. Mostly though, I think this is an issue where the FF's were essentially correct.

You're so ignorant and xenophobic it hurts. If a Frenchman or a Brit could lead your country to greatness, ....
Now that is funny. I don't care who ya are, that right there is funny right there now.

If the USA did allow non-citizens to run, excepting those noted above, y'all might be able to find a good one. Seems you have not been having much luck internally. ;)

Why was that funny, in particular? As I recall, the French and British Empires were the second and first, respectively, largest and most powerful empires in the history of man. If I were you, an American, I should be salivating at the thought of a Frenchman or a Brit running your country -- learn from the best.
