According to scholars and the internet (including Wikipedia), the President of the United States is always the most powerful person on the planet. Is Obama just a figurehead, or is he really that powerful?

Dude, your posts are becoming a ball ache.

There's a little something the President of the United States possesses and controls. And those things are:

The Nuclear Launch Codes for the United States Nuclear Weapons.

I'd say that makes him pretty powerful. :prof

But is he secretly just a figurehead for the corporations of America?

The President has a lot of official power, but anyone who thinks a single individual can micromanage such a massive bureaucracy is fooling themselves. When one considers the roles of private corporations in our governance it becomes even further out of his grasp. One must also consider the duration of power. Most Presidents are only major players when they are President. However, people like David Rockefeller are powerful for much of their lives and arguably individually more powerful than any President. To understand how powerful someone like David Rockefeller is he engineered Richard D. Parsons' rise to high-level corporate office including the Chairman of Citigroup and Time Warner. This was because Parsons was know to the Rockefeller family as his grandfather was a servant on their estate. So one of the most successful African-Americans in this country had his success engineered by the people his grandfather did gardening for.

Can any President in our history claim to have that much pull in anything except for what concerns their official duties when they are President?

Of course he's the most powerful person in the world. If you're going to assert otherwise, who do YOU think is the most powerful person?
