Will Obama go down in history as the president who made America socialist?

Well, he isn't trying to make America Socialist, and he won't make America socialist unless the House of representatives collectively lose their minds for the next 2 years...

Why is this?
One can say that the first decent man, going back millina, who cared about his fellow, man was a socialist.
Most of us are social, its a human trait.
In truth, Obama is NOT a socialist, he is a pragmatist. I was going to say "conservative", but this brings on negative commutations..

Ahhh see? Here's the disconnect, you still believe what Obama says. I look more at what he does. He said you could keep your current coverage, right? Well, thanks to Obamacare, premiums have gone up so many who liked their coverage are forced to go with a cheaper option with higher deductibles. In other words, Obama was wrong about keeping the coverage we like and completely lied whenever he's suggested the cost of health will actually go down.

If I were designing a system from scratch, I would probably go ahead with a single-payer system...

Given that a lot of people work for insurance companies, a lot of people work for HMOs. You’ve got a whole system of institutions that have been set up. Why not single payer?

He is still talking about dismantling the system based on private property in the first two paragraphs. The last....

People don’t have time to wait. They need relief now. So my attitude is let’s build up the system we got, let’s make it more efficient, we may be over time—as we make the system more efficient and everybody’s covered—decide that there are other ways for us to provide care more effectively.

....seems to be his route to get there. As a matter of fact it does cover the route he actually went. Make everyone pay for a service, then decide how to relieve them of the system some more.

Communism gave socialism an unfortuniate stigma.
Not every step that man takes is in "the right direction".

Obama is a moderate, what would have been called a liberal Republican four decades ago.

LOL how can anyone compete with government? They can print money, borrow money, rack up as much debt as they want to compete. Private insurance companies can't do that. How about competition across state lines instead?

The health care bill that passed doesn't allow for this and I suspect he knew that in advance.

So what I’ve said is, let’s set up a system where if you already have health care through your employer and you’re happy with it, you don’t have to change doctors, you don’t have to change plans — nothing changes. If you don’t have health care or you’re highly unsatisfied with your health care, then let’s give you choices, let’s give you options, including a public plan that you could enroll in and sign up for. That’s been my proposal.

Who said you weren't? I'm stating Reagan didn't LGBT rights and was a radical Christian who supported dictatorships. Not somebody I want running my country.

I agree...
But consider that Bush got the country to hate him through the direction he was taking the country, so in unison the majority of americans jumped into Obama's arms on the promise of 'change'... but that 'change' was to take what Bush was doing and amp it up a few notches.

SO, while we can vote out Obama... we have to make sure that we are not voting IN someone who is much worse.

I understand your feelings. You absolutely reject the imposition of someone else's doctrinaire dogma on you. You are right because the imposition of Reagan's views on you violated your rights. The same thing is true for me and Obama. I feel just as strongly as you.

I would rather there be no America than to have Obama's social justice dogma imposed on me. I don't expect you to compromise with me. And I will not compromise with you. Actually, American political paralysis works for both of us. It prevents either side from imposing its will on the other side.

Not only would one have to believe Barack Obama is socialist, one would also have to believe that after his presidency there is nothing possible for anyone to do after he leaves office. Will anyone here really say that Obama is so powerful, and they are so weak, that regardless of who is elected after him, and after that next President, that they will be unable to change anything?
