As far as the parents giving children good advice thing ("don't play in the street"), I just think that there are a lot of adults who believe that most teenagers don't listen to such advice or other advice from their parents. I am of the opinion that many more teenagers listen to a lot of the advice that their parents do give them, but that those teenagers that don't, get more attention (negative yes, but still attention) and so that appears to be the norm. Sure, most teenagers could listen to more of the advice that their parents give, but then again, there are many adults who could listen to more of the advice that they are given. Many adults do not give many teenagers enough credit/respect because of the actions of other teenagers, and that isn't fair. Teenagers are individuals, they are not all alike.

And not all parents are good parents. There are some parents out there who don't give their children good advice or good advice often enough. Some of those children turn out okay (generally because they are getting that advice from sources other than their parents), but many will not fair too well if they don't have the knowledge to begin with.
Ever read the book Toxic Parents? Mine are described in almost every chapter, except those relating to sexual abuse...I gave up on them a long time ago. They are gone now, of course. Your father could be trying to be useful. It is one of the larger difficulties with old age, you start to feel useless. Show some mercy to the old guy....

That kind of name calling can get you reported, try to use some manners...
Not like it matters, you have grandkids, so you win the fight of EXPERIENCE!

Great, so how is those relationships with them going? Have they visited anytime recently?

Frequently, and the grandkids like to sleep over....
I wasn't offering you advice, per say.

    per se

Thanks, a sense of humor is an indicator of intellect..

I have no idea it was a seventeen years ago.
You can't remember your school's name? Not all that memorable, I guess.

No, my father just likes attention. I, unfortunately, got his trait of sharing useless knowledge and can't always help myself, but I do try.

That is also not the only reason that I have little respect for my father. He left my mother for an older woman 10 years ago, and eventhough all of us kids hate her and feel that their marriage is a big reason that my father's health is failing so fast, he refuses to listen to anyone else and just leave her because he doesn't want to be alone and my mother refuses to take him back (he has asked everyone of us kids to ask her if she will). And, even before all this drama, I considered my father more of an older brother who just went to work and then did his own thing, letting my mom raise the kids (eventhough she worked more hours than he did) with help from my grandmother.

I can understand your point of view....in my family, it was Mom that stirred up stuff and dad who was too weak to tell her to shut up. He finally did, when I was 17 and having to put up with her crap pretty much alone. THe older 3 had already bailed, each at 17, quitting school to join the military or get married. Odd thing, she did shut up....all it took was for dad to finally speak up....
I solved the problem by moving far away and cutting off contact with them. Our kids have not been exposed to them, and that is a good thing..

At the ages Henrin is talking about being a good parent is far more relevant. Only if you are a control freak who looks down on your kids would you think raising the average teenager is harder.

Feeling pity isn't condescending or arrogant.

Obviously... so? Just look at Utah here, he is far older than me and I am much more wise than he.

There is no need for me to read anything into it as that is what was being said.
I said you were inferior? Provide a link please or kindly keep your inferiority complex to yourself...

I don't doubt that you got the same impression. On this matter you are like-minded so it is quite natural that you would use the same fallacious reasoning.
    Then kindly display the fallacy...

Obviously because you are quite confident in yourself.
Argumentative... one can be confident in some aspects of themselves and not in others.

It has everything to do with seeing them as inferior. That premise seeps out of every word you people type.
    Naive is not inferior... sorry.

I pondered a lot of things as a child that were not of a simplistic nature.
I didn't say simplistic, I said "conscious". You really need to start reading better...

I have never stated my age anywhere on this forum. All I said is that I had already turned 18 a while ago.
I believe you actually said, "a short time ago".

All in all, you have your opinion based off of nothing other than lack of experience. Good for you. Keep telling us that have gone through the experiences ourself that we don't know what we are talking about. If anything, I would argue that you have an inferiority complex that you mask with a ridiculous amount of arrogance. It seems to seep from every word that you say...

I think that answers UtahBill's speculation above. I don't think you're a foreigner struggling with English. Must be the other option.
